Are you fed up with old, worn-out apartment doors? Renew them

Internal doors, especially in frequently used rooms, are exposed to damage, scratches and dirt. Over time, they begin to lose their aesthetic appeal and this can happen even faster than with walls. If you do not want to replace them with new ones yet, try to renew them yourself and give them a completely new expression.

How painted

Restoring doors with paint is the simplest and cheapest solution. Depending on the type of wing, you must first prepare it for further treatments. If its surface is veneered, wash it with a degreaser and then with clean water. After it dries, you need to sand it with sandpaper and clean it well. Only after these steps, paint the door veneered with water-based acrylic enamel intended for wood. It will make internal doors resistant to damage and weather conditions.

Lamination all over again

Prepare interior doors in wood-like veneer for painting in the same way as veneered ones, i.e. use sandpaper and clean well. In this case, however, you should use a primer to give the paint better adhesion. Then apply either acrylic emulsion, as in the case of veneer, or phthalic paint, which spreads more efficiently. You may need up to three layers. You can finish the whole thing with gloss varnish or mat. If you are not afraid of bold solutions, experiment with colors. Consider also choosing a blackboard or magnetic paint - thanks to them you will not only renew the door, but also give it a new function.

The door on the wallpaper

An interesting solution is to renew the door by covering it with wallpaper. First, of course, prepare the surface - same as for painting. It is important that the wallpaper you choose is durable, resistant to damage and washable. Its pattern should not be a coincidence, but it should match the decor, otherwise your interior doors will look like something out of space. The wallpaper motif should also be placed elsewhere in the room - on a fragment of a wall, on a picture, on a chest of drawers.

Individualized doors

Do you want a door different from everyone else? You can cover them with your own artwork. And if you feel better as a photographer than a cartoonist, use the most beautiful photo you have taken. All you need to do is order a printout on self-adhesive foil and the material for door renovation is ready. To make the new "veneer" more durable, laminate it. The effect will be impressive for sure!

Glass variety

Glazing in interior doors is also subject to damage, so the easiest way to renew it is to replace the glass with new ones. You can decorate them in an interesting way, e.g. by sticking a patterned self-adhesive foil. Consider other options as well, such as frosted glass or stained glass. If the door has a lot of small glazing, it would be a great idea to replace them with mirrors. Such a trick will allow you to lighten the interior a bit.

Details to be replaced

Renewing your door may require you to replace the handle and hinge. It is important that the new handle has the same or slightly larger escutcheon (then the traces of the screws will not be visible). Replacing the old hinges (it won't hurt to consult a professional on this matter) will also refresh the appearance of interior doors. It is a good idea to use hinge caps, available e.g. in chrome or gold, which will instantly change the appearance of the door. You will be surprised, but even such a small detail matters!
