The President of Brazil is already called Captain Chainsaw. Cuts the Amazon rainforest until the shavings fly

Scientists from the International Panel on Climate Change agree that the increase in temperatures all over the Earth, especially the Amazon rainforest - known as the green lungs of the globe - is not a threat. Of course, a systematic decrease in the amount of rainfall will harm it, as will all trees. But there is no question of extinction. Human activity, which leads to deforestation, is definitely a greater threat, tangible for the Forest.

Unfortunately, the logging of the Amazon Forest is accelerating

If you compare this year's July to last year's, the area disappeared from the forested areas of the Amazon Forest by as much as 278 percent. greater. It is about the destruction of 2,253 square kilometers of vegetation. This is twice as much as Los Angeles.

The green lungs of the globe cover a total of 5.5 million square kilometers in the area of 9 countries. But about 60 percent. the forest is located in Brazil and that is why key decisions are made there. Meanwhile, this year is set to be the first in five years that Brazil may lose more forest than London.

This is thanks to the President of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, who, thanks to his love of cutting trees, has already gained the nickname Kapitan Saw Chain. Already in the election campaign, he was not afraid to despise issues related to nature protection and Donald Trump used to mock climate change. Now it turns out that he is not jokingly moving from words to deeds.

From now on, my military colleague will be properly looking at the cameras

Terrifying data about the progressive cutting down of the Amazon rainforest was provided by the Brazilian National Institute for Space Research (INPE), which presented unambiguous satellite images. It turns out, however, that the current president of Brazil is an advocate of the fait accompli theory. Thus, if there were no satellite photos showing how the Amazon rainforest disappears, there would be no need to deal with it.

Following this line of reasoning, Jair Bolsonaro concluded that the biggest blame for the fact that the world had circulated the information about the deforestation of the green lungs of the globe rests on the shoulders of the head of the INPE, who was to "manipulate the data". After all, if he did not show the photos, it would still be quiet on this topic. And this is how unnecessary mess has become. Therefore, the president of Brazil hired his military colleague Darcton Policarpo Damiao as the new head of INPE, who from now on is to provide only good data for the Brazilian government.

Because this is a plot targeting all of Brazil

President Jair Bolsonaro is following the long-established political path in which the popularity of crowds is gained by drawing an imaginary enemy everywhere. The logging of the Amazon rainforest is another example of this tactic. The Brazilian president decided that the current head of INPE is a liar who works with some non-governmental organization. And their real goal is to change power in the country.

The Brazilian president maintains that the Amazon rainforest issue is an internal Brazil affair. He is not convinced by the arguments about the role of this extraordinary rainforest for the entire earth's ecosystem.

Pressure? And what if it helps, it certainly won't hurt

What the current president of Brazil thinks about climate change could be deduced last year, after the victorious October elections, but before the official resignation of office at the beginning of 2019. Then Brazil suddenly resigned from hosting this year's UN climate summit. Chile will act as the host.

But despite the implacable position of Jair Bolsonaro, Brazilian NGOs, including environmental ones, are calling for as much pressure as possible. It is during COP25 that the international community should demand thorough and open monitoring of the Amazon rainforest.

The attitude of the European Union itself, which is the second market for Brazilian exports, is also not without significance. Meanwhile, if beef or soybeans come from illegally cut areas - they should not go to the Old Continent.

It is not the first time that politics has assumed a choma on ecology

Today, absorbing more than half a billion tonnes of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere every year, the Amazon Forest has one of the key meanings in the context of climate change. Scientists no longer wonder when we will begin to feel the effects of reckless human action, but are more concerned with how long it will take to fight climate adversity.

Unfortunately, the example of the Brazilian president confirms that a politician can stand in the way of the changes that are necessary. We dealt with a similar distortion of reality on the occasion of COP24, organized in Katowice. Despite the fact that the whole world rumbles about the necessity to say goodbye to coal, the participants of this UN Climate Summit were welcomed by the mining orchestra. And the President of Poland, Andrzej Duda, caused considerable consternation by saying that our country will never give up coal, because "coal does not contradict climate protection and technological progress in this area".
