Polish Tedee smart lock integrated with Apple HomeKit

The manufacturer of the smart lock Tedee Lock has announced its full integration with the HomeKit system. This is good news for Apple users.

Every third person who built a house in 2020 decided to use smart home devices in it. Most Poles, 33%, see time saving in smart home solutions. In the next places, consumers put the improvement of the comfort of life (23%) and enabling rest (20%). These needs are met by both Apple home products and smart home devices from other manufacturers. On the other hand, smart equipment integrated with the Apple HomeKit system is one of the easiest steps to making your own home smart. Therefore, many manufacturers of smart devices apply for Apple certification, which is quite difficult and time-consuming to obtain. The manufacturer of the Tedee Smart Lock has succeeded in this art and can boast of full integration of its product with the Apple HomeKit system.

New functionality allows Home and Siri to operate the lock via Accessory Centers and create shortcuts and automations. Tedee's collaboration with Apple HomeKit also eliminates the need for a Tedee bridge.

- said Grzegorz Chuchra, President of the Management Board of Tedee

Apple certification - a difficult case

Apple HomeKit certification is a long, very demanding and multi-stage process. During it, the correctness of operation is verified in accordance with the security rules and hardware solutions specified by Apple. The software reliability of certified hardware is also checked. This is not an easy process and sometimes it takes several months of specialists' work to ensure the device's compatibility with Apple HomeKit.

- commented Paweł Bijata, director of the marketing department at Gerda

How Tedee works with HomeKit

Thanks to the integration with HomeKit, Tedee Lock does not require the Tedee Smart Bridge to work. In the case of Apple HomeKit, hubs such as Apple TV, HomePod and iPad play the role of a bridge. They enable remote control of the lock, just like using the Tedee bridge.

The process of adding a lock to the Home app is very simple. In the updated Tedee app, just select the HomeKit option and follow the prompts. After a short setup, you can start using Siri's help by saying the phrase "Unlock Home" or "Lock Home", where "Home" is the default name of the smart lock in HomeKit.

No need for the Tedee Bridge with HomeKit, the cost of purchasing a Tedee kit is lower. However, the use of this device should be reconsidered by users who care, among others, for automatic updates of the smart lock software, remote management of access to the lock, receiving notifications about lock events or remote access to real-time activity logs and remote control of settings.
