Volkswagen T-Roc: Beats audio system and parking exit assistant

Home ›Volkswagen T-Roc: Beats audio system and parking space departure assistant

Here is a short test of selected equipment features of the Volkswagen T-Roc Premium version. This time, as usual, I used the optional Beats audio system and parking sensors, which are extremely useful in the city, with a parking space exit assistant. How does it work in practice?

Volkswagen T-Roc is a compact crossover belonging to the B segment, although the muscular silhouette gives the impression that the car is slightly larger than it really is. This treatment by stylists made the car look very interesting and extravagant, of course for Volkswagen's capabilities. He is a typical city fighter, although the offer does not lack powerful drive units and four-wheel drive. Not only that, the R variant with a 300 HP 2.0 TSI engine and 4Motion drive has recently debuted.

Such a combination makes the potentially quiet and economical "townsperson" almost a track hot hatch. Or rather, hot cross. The tested unit belonged rather to the first group. This time I decided to describe the Beats audio system and parking cameras, which are very useful in the city, with a parking space exit assistant.

Beats audio system

I have already written several times that good audio systems are not reserved only for the premium segment, although yes, in this version they perform almost fabulously. An example is the sensational Mark Levinson sound system in the Lexus LS 500. On the other hand, even compact cars can have great audio, as exemplified by Bang & Olufsen in the Ford Focus or Beats Audio in Seat Leon.

In the T-Roc model, Volkswagen also opted for a set signed by Beats, but in this case it is a slightly more modest package. It is six speakers and a subwoofer powered by an 8-channel amplifier with a power of 300 W. The main control unit is a radio or navigation system, on the display of which, when turned on, the Beats start screen appears. Of course, the number of settings is not impressive - everything is limited to the basic configuration, selection of the level of low, medium and high tones, balance, etc.

How does it play? While in Seat we dealt with quite a warm sound, with bass and mid-tones protruding in front of the series, in the T-Roc you can get the impression that everything is more balanced. Even so, you can feel a slight lack of power, especially at higher volume settings. However, it is not annoying and medium-demanding users who simply like to listen to music while driving will be satisfied. The cost of the Beats audio set is PLN 2,120.

Reversing camera with departure assistant

Until some time ago, many drivers questioned the use of parking sensors in city or compact cars. Today, even in small crossovers or B-segment models, not only front and rear parking sensors are used, but also cameras, often 360 degrees, as well as parking and parking assist systems. The tested T-Roc was equipped with parking sensors at the front and rear, a rear view camera and an assistant to exit the parking space (Rear Traffic Alert System). How it's working?

It is true that it is difficult to complain about the visibility to the rear and to the sides in the Volkswagen T-Roc, but in many road situations, even in a large and heavily glazed van, you can not see much. It is enough for us to have more cars parked on both sides when leaving the parking space. In such situations, the parking space exit assistant is great, which warns you of oncoming traffic from the left or right. At the rear of the vehicle, radar sensors are installed to monitor the area behind and next to the vehicle; they complement the ultrasonic sensors that are part of the Parking Assistant.

These sensors "see" much more than the driver and act as a kind of periscope, "looking" sideways as we slowly back up trying to get into traffic. If the system detects a car approaching from the side behind the car, it will warn the driver in advance. If it does not react, the car may brake automatically. Such a system will avoid or at least reduce the risk of an accident or collision. In crowded parking lots near supermarkets, in underground garages in shopping malls or in crowded cities, such a system can save us a lot of nerves and money. How much does it cost? Depending on the equipment and the selected package, the price ranges from PLN 990 to PLN 4540.

For the curious: What is this car?

The tested model is a Premium version of the Volkswagen T-Roc with a 1.5 TSI engine with 150 HP, torque of 250 Nm and an automatic DSG transmission. The drive goes to the front axle. This combination allows for quite dynamic travel. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h takes 8.4 seconds and top speed is around 205 km / h. According to the manufacturer, the average fuel consumption is 5.5 l / 100km, but of course it is almost unattainable. On the road, the car burned about 7 l / 100 km, in the city it was not a problem to descend below 10 liters, and a very calm and patient driver will cut the proverbial "half a liter" from both results.

The price of the tested unit is PLN 116,590 in the catalog, although with all the accessories the price soared to over PLN 140,000. Is it worth it? It's hard to say, because the car is really interesting and can be configured in many ways. It's also not as sedate and serious as you'd expect from a Volkswagen. However, it is quite expensive and the interior materials are quite hard. Simply put, we have plastic everywhere. However, these are the two biggest disadvantages of this car, because the equipment and the multitude of additional options of the T-Roc beats the competition.

Summary

Volkswagen T-Roc is a very interesting car with great equipment and a wealth of additional options and possibilities. It is expensive and could have better materials in the interior, but this will not be a problem for everyone. The optional Beats system sounds great, and the driver assistance systems, including the parking space departure assistant, will prove useful in everyday use of the car in urban conditions.
