What to pay attention to when choosing patio doors?

If you plan large glazing - both windows and doors, it is worth determining the location and degree of sunlight of a given facade at the design stage. A terrace on the south side will certainly be a better idea than the one on the north side, although it may require the use of sun shades.

However, the most attention should be paid to the choice of the patio doors themselves. They will be responsible for whether the exit to the terrace and garden will be comfortable.

Comfortable use of patio doors

Lift and slide doors are currently considered the most convenient solution. However, in order for them to fulfill their functions and suit us, we need to take care of a few things. One of them is the threshold, or more precisely, that it should be as low as possible. Only then will we not risk tripping when going out onto the terrace. This is especially important when children, the elderly or the disabled live in the house.

- Although in the case of the most popular HST systems today, a low threshold is offered as standard, few people know that it can be further lowered and additionally equalized. This is achieved by installing a lower running rail on which the active sash carriage moves and applying a leveling plate from the outside. The use of such a solution means that the threshold is only 5mm high! - explains Ryszard Maczyński from the company MS more than OKNA.

Another point to consider is the type of running gear. It is he who determines the trouble-free operation of such a large structure - because let's not forget that the wings can weigh up to 300 kg. The use of a special trolley with adjustment is a great help in the assembly and subsequent operation of heavy large-size doors.

This option offered by MS more than WINDOWS enables minor corrections already on a fully installed HST, without the need to distance the glass insert, which is associated with the risk of its breakage.

Safety is the key!

Many people associate large patio doors with a greater risk of burglary. Is it right? Not necessarily. Whether a given window or door is easy to break through does not depend on its size, but on the fittings used. That is why it is so important to check the package offered by the manufacturer.

In the case of Patio HST, the presence of four bolts, including one longer than the rest, allows the door to be unsealed so as to enable more effective ventilation of the rooms while lowering the door leaf, i.e. locking it. As a result, the system is an essentially insurmountable barrier.

Especially when we supplement Patio HST with an additional internal lock, as well as safe (anti-burglary) P4A glass. These packages consist of two 4-mm panes glued together with a special PVB foil, which prevents breaking even if the pane itself is broken.

Warm patio doors? It is possible!

Last but certainly not least is energy efficiency. And here again - contrary to popular belief, large glazing does not necessarily mean that heat is escaping. Due to the thermal insulation parameters of the glazing unit, which are much more favorable than the thermal insulation of the profiles - patio doors can be even warmer than smaller woodwork! Unless, of course, we choose the right system.
