e-Toll, December 1, new fines for drivers. What is worth knowing?

e-Toll will also be mandatory for drivers of passenger cars from December 1, 2021. What should you know about the system to avoid a PLN 500 fine?

e-Toll, December 1 and... account registration

Exactly on December 1, 2021, toll gates will disappear on sections of motorways managed by state operators payments. Specifically, we are talking about A2 (between Konin and Stryków) and A4 (between Wrocław and Sośnica). However, this does not mean that the rulers have decided to bow down to the fate of drivers and reduce their costs. This only means that from that moment the payment must be made via the e-Toll system. First, however, the driver must register in the database via etoll.gov.pl (authorizing with a trusted profile) or at Customer Service Points.

e-Toll, December 1, new penalties for drivers. What is worth knowing?

The gates on A2 and A4 will disappear. Tolls are not...

After December 1, 2021, drivers will have three options to pay for the A2 and A4 journey on the above-mentioned sections. First of all, they can install an OBU or ZSL device in the car. Secondly, the payment can be made using the e-Toll mobile application. Thirdly, it is possible to go to a gas station and buy a motorway ticket. In each of the cases, the most important thing is really ... the registration number of the vehicle. Because it is on its basis that the fact of paying the fee will be controlled.

The mobile application will collect the payment automatically or manually

Most drivers of passenger cars using the e-Toll system will certainly use the mobile application. In it, the operator logs in to a previously set up account with a prepaid top-up, and the phone, based on location data, automatically charges the fee after entering a paid section. What's more, even if something goes wrong and the phone does not catch the moment of entering the section, the driver has the option of making the payment manually.

Penalties in e-Toll. How much does a journey without payment cost?

The National Revenue Administration - responsible for collecting payments from e-Toll - made sure that the system was as tight as possible. How? First of all, by creating a penalty system. For a passenger car, driving along the A2 or A4 section without paying the fee will result in a fine of PLN 500. Importantly, penalties will be charged automatically. Payments will be monitored by a network of cameras reading the vehicle registration number - mounted both in special police cars driving on motorways and on masts at the entrance and exit of the paid section.
