Volkswagen Tiguan versus Mitsubishi ASX

Once upon a time you did not need a company stamp and model name to know that we are dealing with a Japanese or German car.Today it is not so obvious, because qualitative, material or aesthetic differences between cars just blur.As in the case of ASX and Tiguan, built according to a very similar concept and presenting similar utility values.

VW Tiguan, built on a compact golf floor plate, has been present on the market since 2007.and the first modernization was in 2011.It has a fairly conservative stylization, with a massive, not very sophisticated front and slightly inclined rear window.Looks a bit like a station wagon, but exceptionally grown and associated with off -roaders.This is due to a large clearance (19.5 cm), useful in the wilderness.Mitsubishi ASX was also created on the floor plate of a compact car, specifically Lancera.Has a more dynamic line and looks a bit feisty. This is due to the large air inlet at the front, referring to fighters produced by Mitsubishi. The ASX body is clearly lower and the Japanese SUV clearance is 18 cm.

The differences in the dimensions of the car are not important when driving. In both cases, driving properties do not raise any objections during ordinary, daily driving.Cars are certain, predictable, easy to control in all road conditions. In both cases, the chassis electronics perfectly supports the driver.Tiguan is less comfortable, because its suspension has been tuned a little stiffer. It is useful when we want to go dynamically.Despite the greater height, Volkswagen remains unmoved in both corners and violent maneuvers.ASX's acute driving requires a greater concentration from the driver, because the car "catches" a lot of tilting in the fast arches. In turn, driving Tiguan on leaky streets or passing uneven tram tracks, one would like to change to ASX, because in it such pseudo-attractions are overcome much more pleasant.

The engines of both cars are similar. They work evenly, quiet and pleasant. The one in Mitsubishi has slightly better dynamics, but the differences reach barely a few tenths of a second in the sprint to "hundreds".In turn, TDI under the sign of Volkswagen is characterized by better flexibility and a wider range of use.Efficiently accelerates from 1700 rpm.Turbodiesel in ASX needs 300 rpm more. This characteristics of the Tiguan engine owes slightly lower fuel consumption. It should be noted, however, that in both cases the driving is pleasant, both in ASX and Tiguan, the driver has the right supply of power for efficient acceleration. And a small "plus" for ASX - the perfect operation of the gear lever.

The 4x4 drive works in both cars.Tiguan has a system with an electronic Haldex tile clutch, which under normal conditions transmits 90 % of the torque to the front wheels, and only 10 % to the rear.Depending on the road conditions, these proportions are changed to ensure the best traction. In ASX, the drive chapter also provides a multi -plate clutch. You can drive in the front wheel drive mode or set the system to the automatic torque distribution, as in Tiguan. When blocking the drive of both axles (LOCK), a constant distribution of the drive occurs, 50 % per axle.

But driving pleasure is primarily an interior and equipment. And in ASX and Tiguanu it really is pleasant. He sits in comfortable armchairs, everything is easily accessible and intuitive. Both Volkswagen and Mitsubishi convince the quality of the finish and good materials.Of course, there are places where we will find worse plastics, but they do not gross with their presence. In any case, there is no place for trash. But there is also no place for finesse, in both cars there is simplicity and classic. The numerous air intakes on the dashboard are characteristic of Tiguana. It is difficult to deny them functionality, but their aesthetics is very debatable.Passenger compartments provide enough space for a compact car level. In a slightly longer Tiguana, additional centimeters were used for the trunk, thanks to which it is much larger.

In terms of basic serial equipment, we basically have similarities, as showed by the table. The differences can be seen in elements that are not demonstrated there.ASX tires over Tiguan with a knee with an airbag, xenon headlights and parking sensors at the back.Tiguan is only revealing the driver to detect the driver's fatigue. But when we consider the additional equipment, Volkswagen's advantage is not discussed. For ASX, you can buy a navigation and cultimedist station for 4490 PLN for important things. In contrast, Tiguan offers, among others, bi -xenon headlights with dynamic cornering function (PLN 4620), adaptive suspension (PLN 4,140), side airbags at the back (PLN 1310), automatic road lights (PLN 570), lane assistant (1980 PLN),parking assistant (PLN 1940) and electronic differential lock XDS (PLN 1010)

The cheapest ASX with gasoline engine 1.6 (117 km) and only front wheel drive costs PLN 61,900.For the cheapest, gasoline Tiguana 1.4 TSI with only the front axle drive you have to pay PLN 87,080.The difference is huge, as in the case of the tested versions. This is a price gap that lies with a shadow on Tiguan's advantages.

Summary

The tie result seems justified.Tiguan and ASX in many respects are very similar and in the utility side they do not differ much. They present an equally good level of finish, almost identical performance and similar fuel consumption.Even the style in both cases is rather behaving style. It is true that Volkswagen is slightly larger and towers over the rival of an extensive list of additional equipment, but Mitsubishi crushes the competitor with a price, nearly PLN 13,000 lower. The fact is that this engine version of Tiguana from the 2016 model year is 10 HP stronger, which, however, does not change much the situation. At most, it will allow Volkswagen to get closer to the performance of Mitsubishi.
