Volkswagen has modernized the Car-Net - Automotive system at INTERIA.PL
Volkswagen has enriched the Car-Net system with new functions that will significantly increase the comfort of the car's operation, provide the most important information during the journey, which allow you to save time and money. The new Car-Net also improves safety.
Internet connectivity in your car means more and more options, not only in terms of comfort. The driver is also better informed about what is happening on the road (online traffic information), what are the conditions (weather forecast with a rainfall map) and where to find a petrol station with attractive prices. In addition, passengers can use Wi-Fi. These functions have been available in Volkswagen cars for over a year under one system: Car-Net. The first cars with the latest version of the Car-Net system were delivered to customers. Together with it, Volkswagen provides further innovative solutions, thanks to which users will gain an even more advanced assistant. The latest version consists of 4 packages: Guide & Inform, Security & Service, App-Connect, e-Remote. Access to individual services depends on the version of the installed infotainment system and the car. Car-Net Guide & Inform - the travel assistant. Regardless of the length of the journey, the driver and passengers are always well informed thanks to the enhanced Guide & Inform service. The service can be configured as needed to obtain only the information that is most needed during the journey. Guide & Inform keeps the driver informed about traffic jams and other road problems. Compared to a traditional radio information system, online data is made available without any quantitative or time limitations. Warnings are immediately taken into account by the navigation system, which calculates an alternative route to the designated place (the driver may or may not use it). While driving, you can not only view the list of received notifications, but also check their exact location on the map. All obstacles and traffic are marked with appropriate colors and icons to make it easier for the driver to orientate themselves. The system also informs about snow-covered or icy sections of roads where there is a need to install snow chains. Guide & Inform enriches satellite navigation with an online search engine for addresses, points of interest and other places. At any time, you can easily check information about various facilities nearby: ATMs, parking lots, restaurants, gas stations, cinemas and much more. Selected objects can be immediately added to an existing itinerary as a waypoint or a destination - the route will then be automatically calculated and navigation will start. There is also a detailed weather forecast updated on a regular basis (for the current time and next 24 hours and a 3-day forecast) with active precipitation map (for the next 90 minutes). The forecast is prepared for your destination and current location. You can also search for POIs and addresses via the Car-Net website using a computer or smartphone app and send them to the car. The sharing of addresses takes place on an ongoing basis, which is easy to appreciate when, for example, you need to drive up someone. A husband waiting for his wife can send her location directly to the on-board navigation, and the device will immediately calculate the most convenient route. What's more, thanks to Google Street View and Google Earth services, the driver will see panoramic photos of the destination, which greatly facilitates orientation during the journey. Searching for places is very easy. Thanks to the improved voice control, it only takes a few simple commands to find the right location, calculate the route and start route guidance. It is as easy to find a petrol station for specific networks or a bar, as a tourist attraction such as the Książ Castle or the mooring place of the famous ship-museum ORP Błyskawica in Gdynia.
The Guide & Inform service is complemented by a news feature that brings you the latest information from portals and other subscribed news sites around the world. You can select any information source via the Car-Net portal - simply enter the appropriate RSS feed address. The information, along with the photos, is then displayed on the Discover Media and Discover Pro infotainment system screen. Car-Net Security & Service - greater security The Security & Service package is a real support for the user in every situation: from even the shortest journey to planning visits to the workshop. In an emergency, the user can independently call for help for himself and other participants of the event - just use the SOS button located near the rearview mirror. The report can also be sent automatically - if the airbags are activated, the alarm will go to the control panel, which will immediately notify the emergency services (providing, among others, information about the location and number of people in the cabin, estimated on the basis of data on fastened seat belts). Thanks to this, the driver and travelers can receive professional assistance much faster than before. Security & Service is also useful to find out where the car is. The function is used not only to check the parking position, but also to verify whether the car is within the allowed area. This area can be freely defined in the Car-Net portal. If the car leaves the permitted zone, the owner will immediately receive a notification by SMS or by e-mail (as requested), which will be appreciated, among others, by parents sharing the car with their children. The owner can also receive notifications about exceeding the defined speed of the car, thanks to which parents can intervene faster when they receive an alarm about careless driving of their children. You can also review the data for each journey you have made to see average speed and fuel economy, driving time and distance traveled. This is invaluable knowledge for anyone who wants to improve their driving style.
As part of the Security & Service package, the driver can always check the technical condition of his car. Before going on a long journey, he has the opportunity to check the car via the Car-Net portal. Information such as warning messages, mileage, distance and time remaining to review are made available in the form of automatically generated reports. All relevant messages will be automatically forwarded to the authorized service station selected by the user to facilitate the planning of the inspection (the advisor will then contact the driver to arrange a convenient time), and, if necessary, prepare the appropriate parts (e.g. brake pads and discs) and reserve time for appropriate service by mechanics. Via the portal and the application, information is also available whether the door has been closed and the position lights turned off. So instead of leaving, for example, from the office to the car, everything can be checked via a smartphone. The application also shows notifications when the alarm system is activated - the time of activation and the reason (e.g. an attempt to open the door without the correct key). All submitted online alarm reports are archived so that nothing escapes the attention of the owner. Volkswagen App-Connect - smartphone integration Volkswagen was the first manufacturer to offer three systems for connecting a smartphone to a car multimedia system: Apple "CarPlay ™", Google "Android Auto ™" and "MirrorLink ™". Each of them allows you to display a smartphone application on the infotainment display. The driver has full freedom to choose which solution he will use on a daily basis without the need to change the multimedia system. Depending on the selected solution, the driver can use satellite navigation applications (e.g. Apple Maps, Google Maps, Sygic), internet radio (e.g. Aupeo) , network music services (e.g. Spotify), parking space finder (e.g. Parkopedia), audiobook player (e.g. Audioteka) or various social programs (e.g. Glympse). There are also applications specially developed by Volkswagen and compatible with "MirrorLink ™" . They will be useful, among others to analyze driving style (eg Think Blue. Trainer), find places (My Guide), save driving routes (Drive & Track) or schedule meetings and save tasks to be done (Call & Remind). Parents traveling with children can check what is happening on the back seat using the Cam-Connect app and the GoPro ™ Hero4 action camera. The camera image is then displayed on the infotainment display in the dashboard (when stationary and when driving at low speed). e-Remote The Car-Net e-Remote function is designed for electric and hybrid vehicles. Using a smartphone or website, for example, you can control the battery charging process or turn on air conditioning or heating. By heating or cooling the interior, the energy stored in the batteries is not lost when the car is connected to the charging source. The system also allows you to program the time of departure, in such a situation the car, taking into account the outside temperature, will turn on the air conditioning or heating at the right moment.Share
