Skoda Superb Combi 1.8 TSI - TEST, opinions, photos - JOURNAL DAY 4: Interior, trunk and equipment

The interior of the vehicle matches the styling of the exterior and together with it they form a coherent whole. The dashboard was designed using geometric figures and straight lines, which is why it was kept in a conservative style. Here you can find e.g. circles, rectangles and trapezoids - in a word, a paradise for engineers. The materials used to create the board are relatively hard, but pleasant to the touch. Thanks to this, it can be assumed that in a few years the interior elements will remain in good condition and will continue to look attractive. Elegance is added by a lacquered strip running horizontally from one side of the car to the other, as well as a large number of chrome details. The gear knob is very comfortable, as is the steering wheel covered with good thick leather. The whole looks not very effective, but elegant.

The two-color passenger cabin in black and beige tones makes us feel good inside. Unfortunately, bright upholstery gets dirty easily and it is difficult to keep it in its original condition. The fact that the Czechs paid a lot of attention to the solution of the space for passengers is evidenced by the fact that even the interior door handles are covered with rubberized material from the bottom and they are equipped with small backlighting lamps. The materials used to build the center console and door panels are solid and pleasant to the touch, and the quality of assembly and fitting is at a good level. To locate the buttons responsible for controlling the on-board devices, you do not need to use them - ergonomics taken from German cars makes itself felt here. There are so few buttons that all operations take a short while. The knobs work with a clear indication of the degree of rotation, thanks to which we can easily set the desired volume of the audio system or the air supply temperature. Dual-zone automatic air conditioning is available in all trim levels, except for the poorest Active, which is equipped with manual air conditioning.

Drivers will be pleased with the analog clocks that have been embedded in tubes. Their legibility is very good even on a bright day. The backlight of the dials is white and its intensity can be adjusted. In the center is the electronic display of the on-board computer. The fact that we receive the computer as standard equipment deserves praise. The buttons and knobs on the steering wheel are responsible for its operation, which is currently the most convenient solution.

It is worth mentioning a few words about the equipment of the Superb Combi. In the cheapest Active version, we will get as standard: front fog lights, a storage compartment under the passenger seat, an armrest with a temperature and time display for rear passengers, a compartment for glasses, an asymmetrically divided rear seat, 12V sockets in the central console and the trunk, remotely remote central locking, rear parking sensors, manual air conditioning, cruise control, electric front and rear windows, electric and heated side mirrors, CD/MP3 radio with 8 speakers and a repair kit for wheels. Richer varieties have been supplemented in e.g. tire pressure monitoring system, bi-xenon headlights with cornering function, heated windshield washer jets, keyless entry system, power tailgate, umbrella in the door, net set in the trunk, front parking sensors, dual-zone automatic climate control, rain sensor, side mirrors with lighting around the doors, electrically adjustable front seats and heated front and rear seats.

COMFORT AND SPACIOUS

The Skoda Superb Combi offers space comparable to that of a premium class limousine. Both in the front and in the back there will be plenty of space, even for tall people. The front seats have a large adjustment range, the driver's seat can be adjusted in three directions as standard, and the intensity and setting of the lumbar support can be set according to your preferences. The driving position is relatively low, but it does not prevent you from freely observing the world. The seats are very comfortable and even long journeys do not cause pain. The seat heating works quickly and has three levels of intensity.

The rear seat is split 60/40. The position in the rear seats is very comfortable - it's a must, since VIPs ride in the back. Up to three adults can fit in it, although the high rear tunnel and wide armrest suggest that the car was designed for two people traveling in the back. There is a lot of space for feet, but the area for the knees is pampering - even tall people will have several centimeters of freedom at their disposal. There is probably enough space above the head for everyone, but it is worth remembering that the glass roof limits it a bit (this was the case with "our" copy).

Skoda Superb Combi - BOXES

The number of compartments is sufficient to keep order in the Czech station wagon. In the dashboard on the passenger side there is a classic lockable compartment with backlight and cooling function. An ashtray has been placed under the airflow control panel, which can be used as a place for a phone or wallet. In the central tunnel, there are two cup holders and a large storage compartment with an adjustable armrest. At the left knee, the driver has a lockable compartment for various small items, such as small change for a parking meter. Of course, the door could not miss a pocket for maps or large drinks.

At the end of the central tunnel, there is an ashtray for the rear passengers. There are pockets in the rear part of the front seat backrests, and a comfortable armrest is hidden in the sofa. Even the original umbrella is hidden in the rear left door. Interestingly, it can be hidden even when wet, because the designers took care of the water drain, led outside the vehicle. This is a very useful and well thought-out gadget. There are also pockets in the door for travellers' small items.

Skoda Superb Combi - MULTIMEDIA

As a standard, customers receive a CD/MP3 radio player with 8 speakers. The richer variants are equipped with a CD/MP3 radio with integrated disc changer. The option includes a sound multimedia system with satellite navigation, DVD player and touch screen (as in the case of the tested unit). On the downside is its diagonal, which could be larger, although most drivers should be satisfied with the current state. The optional audio system sounds very nice, but its operation is not the easiest. In addition, it allows you to listen to your favorite music via your smartphone or using an SD card.

Skoda Superb Combi - TRUNK

The Skoda Superb Combi trunk is one of the largest in its class. It can hold up to 633 liters to the shelf line (30 liters less in variants with a spare wheel). For comparison, the luggage capacity of the competition is as follows: Volkswagen Passat Variant - 603 l, Mazda 6 Kombi - 506 l, Toyota Avensis Wagon - 543 l, Renault Laguna - 508 l, Ford Mondeo Kombi - 537 l.

The trunk has a regular shape and a low loading sill, so you don't have to lift your luggage up high. A very useful element that allows for effective immobilization of luggage is the floor with a fastening system (PLN 800), which prevents items from moving forward and backward. With the rear seats folded down, the capacity of the trunk increases to 1,865 liters (30 liters less on variants with a spare wheel). Unfortunately, a small threshold is created, a few centimeters high. The sides of the trunk have useful recesses for smaller items and hooks located near the tailgate, ideal for shopping bags. On the left side there is also a removable backlight lamp that can be used as a flashlight. In the series version, in the event of a puncture, a repair kit must suffice, while the richer versions are equipped with a spare wheel.
