Mass Effect 1 - decryption: how to pick locks • Eurogamer.pl

When playing Mass Effect, you will often come across locks, cabinets or computers (1) with special security features. They cannot be opened on the move, and the difficulty in unlocking them depends on their level (2).

If you want to open such a lock, approach the selected object and interact with it. Two options will appear to resolve the situation. If you have enough omni-gel, you can use it to buy access (3) to the lock. The second option is to use a manual takeover (4).

If you use this option, a timed minigame will start. Its purpose is to move the arrow (5) to the center of the circle (6). Along the way, avoid the orange blocks (7), which stop the arrow, and the red ones (8), which take it back to the beginning of the game. Therefore, you should search for free spaces and try to reach the center of the circle through them.

If you meet the time limit and lead the arrow to the target, the lock will be opened. If not, it will be locked and you can only open it by paying with omni-gel. Note - sometimes the hero's level may be too low to open some locks. In such cases, it is good to develop (in the hero or one of the companions) the Decryption talent.
