It is the responsibility of a person possessing a firearm to prevent unauthorized access to it. For inadvertently causing its loss is punishable by a fine, restriction or even imprisonment.

When choosing a safe's resistance class, it is also worth bearing in mind that the regulations regarding the storage of firearms are becoming more and more stringent. It is possible that a safe with resistance class S1, which today meets the applicable standard, will require costly replacement in a few or more years.

Choosing the class and degree of security

The choice of the safe is primarily influenced by the type, quantity and size of the weapon. People who own firearms solely for personal protection or hunting tend to have fewer guns than collectors and sport shooters. Other parameters that should be taken into account when choosing a safe are the dimensions of the safe (height, width and depth), the type of lock (electronic, key, key and mechanical combination, key and electronic), as well as the insurance rating. Manufacturers of gun safes also offer the purchase of useful accessories for various types of safes, e.g. additional side shelves, door shelves, handles, lockers or holders for cleaning rods that improve the comfort of storing and using weapons.

The decision to purchase a safe requires careful consideration. Devices in class S1 or higher with the markings and protections required by the standard can be found at saffort.pl. The cheapest copies with the S1 resistance class can be purchased from PLN 1,000. The most expensive, guaranteeing maximum protection, class S2, can hold up to 19 weapons, equipped with armored glass and a certified electronic lock, costs PLN 45,000.
