23. Science Picnic at the PGE Narodowy - BRIEF

The Science Picnic, which this year will be held under the slogan "We and Machines", is the largest popular science outdoor event in Europe. It is intended for everyone who is curious about the world - regardless of the knowledge already acquired and regardless of age. This year, for the first time, the Picnic space has been divided into 7 thematic zones. Thanks to this, visitors will be able to easily find the most thematically interesting shows, and exhibitors will benefit from their readability. This is important because on this day there will be almost 1,000 shows, and more than 200 exhibitors from Poland and abroad have prepared them.

FUTURE ZONE

Here you will find inventions, technologies and research that change our everyday life. The world of robots will cease to be so mysterious, and it will even turn out to be funny after meeting the nice MelSon, a humanoid who runs great, practices sumo, and can imitate human movements. The applications of 3D printing will surprise us - it is already used to print… organs. The youngest will be able to create three-dimensional drawings with a special pen. PAKS, a car constructed by students, capable of driving over 300 km on one liter of fuel, will be astonishing. It will be possible to test the capabilities of the Selfie autonomous car. It uses machine vision, lidar and other sensors so that it can drive without a driver. A walk on a folding footbridge will be an experience - many of us have dreamed of such a mobile bridge while walking along the busiest thoroughfares. Here it is!

ZDORWIA ZONE

In this zone, you will be able to see how scientific discoveries are changing the face of medicine. Innovative methods of treating varicose veins, diabetes, obesity, urinary incontinence, hernia, discopathy - these are just some of the innovations that are to extend our life and make it more comfortable. On special simulators it will be possible to "perform" an operation, for example, implantation of the aortic valve, pacemaker, spine stabilizer. The Little Bear Hospital awaits the youngest medics, where children will turn into transplantologists. In the Health Zone, we will learn about the principles of operation of modern prostheses of arms, legs, wheelchairs and exoskeletons, as well as the principles of prevention of the most common diseases.

ZONE OF CULT EXPERIMENTS

The most spectacular and spectacular popular science experiments will be presented here. Liquid nitrogen, dry ice, lots of foam, steam and colors. Here you will be able to squeeze electricity out of a cucumber, play a laser harp and make slime. There will be colored chemical reactions, a levitating Maglev, magnetic cannons and a spy-detective experience. You will be able to remove and examine fingerprints and write an invisible letter in sympathetic ink. Test your knowledge of anatomy by folding and unfolding the human puzzle. On stands full of motors, syringe tubes, gears, racks and other engineering accessories, we will build machines ourselves and test their capabilities on obstacle courses. There will also be an opportunity to create your own walking robot - from paper and skewers.

FAMILY ZONE

It is the kingdom of preschoolers and junior primary school students, who are waiting for many activities that stimulate cognitive curiosity. The youngest ones will take part in artistic and construction activities, plant their own tree and take advantage of the board and outdoor games rental. They will meet dinosaurs - large, but not too scary. Children will see the real teeth and claws of these extinct predators. 3D modeling is used for paleontological research and reconstruction. With the help of this technology, it will also be possible to create a virtual model of oneself: all you need is a moment of patience, specialist equipment taking 40 photos simultaneously and a computer program. The youngest ones are usually interested in the work of firefighters - in the Family Zone they will talk to them and see a simulated fire. Children will also get to know fairy-tale machines - a storytelling machine, a machine for compliments and kind words, a rainbow machine and a sympathy detector.

23. Piknik Naukowy na PGE Narodowym - BRIEF

"DO IT YOURSELF" ZONE

Here you will be able to create and construct on your own. Visitors will take whatever they create with them, such as their own R2D2 robot or Galimoto - a toy recycling vehicle from Kenya. There will be an opportunity to test power tools, such as a jigsaw, heat gun, screwdriver or drill, carpentry tools, as well as modern DIY accessories - a laser plotter, a milling plotter. You will be able to see how Hangprinter works, a large format printer that measures 2.5 m. Thanks to its unusual design, it can work in an unlimited working area - for example, print furniture as a whole. Today we print not only objects, but also biological organs and food. Artists and fashion designers also use printers very often. You will be able to check what they create in this way and test your tailoring skills. The lovers of really large objects will be impressed by the organ made of PVC pipes - an instrument unique on a global scale.

ZONE OF CIVILIZATION

This zone will include positions related to history, art, language, communication, and social sciences. independently explore archaeological excavations, find a replica of monuments, learn about the tools used for field work. Print descriptions of 19th-century inventions and echnologies on the reconstructed printing press. Visit a workshop for printing… fabrics. In a medieval house, do the laundry and churn the butter. Check what the tare and tadpoles were used for and what the stain removal powder was made of. Grind the grain yourself using a replica of burrs and learn about different methods of striking fire. Were old European machines different from Japanese ones? You will be able to see for yourself by weaving KUMIHIMO bracelets and traditional ZŌRI flip-flops, which all of Japan used to wear. It will be possible to play games from distant corners of the world - Indian Baggi-bagga, Sri Lankan checkers, donut battle and tu-ho.

FOREIGN GUEST ZONE

The exhibitors here are guests of the Picnic. Here, it will be possible to isolate DNA from fruits and vegetables, and to prepare molecular jelly imitating caviar. See a door equipped with four single-lock bolts, described by the 12th-century engineer al-Jazari, and a box closed with a combination lock by this scholar. It will be possible to create a modern device - a home hologram projector. You will be able to meet a small robot that helps in rescue operations, talk to iCub - a humanoid that recognizes people and carries out simple commands, construct and program an Otto robot.

As every year, visitors can enjoy numerous attractions in the tents of the Picnic organizers: Polish Radio and the Copernicus Science Center. From here, live broadcasts will be broadcast, you will be able to meet outstanding scientists and science promoters, influencers, famous journalists and celebrities here. Polish Radio invites you to a multimedia journey through the secret life of radio, the Copernicus Science Center - to fascinating meetings with technologically advanced, but also the simplest and brilliant inventions.

A virtual map of the event is now available. It includes, inter alia, all zones, exhibitor stands, information points, food outlets, safety exits and help points. It is available at the following link: http://mapapiknikunaukowej.kopernik.org.pl/
