These appliances dominated the kitchens of the 90s. Rediscover them. Hand mixer. Meat grinder. Slicer.

In the kitchens of the 90s, there were no technologically advanced appliances, but paradoxically it was the simplicity that made them devices for years. At that time, small household appliances were produced by our domestic companies (Amica and then Polish Zelmer), but the offer grew every year thanks to Western companies. What distinguishes the appliances that remember the last century is, above all, the ease of use and low price. So sometimes it is not worth overpaying and opting for equipment that, perhaps, is less modern and is equally functional.

A hand blender is a good choice if you only bake on holidays. The device is also suitable for making pancakes and omelets. The MPM brand mixer has a power of 300 W and interchangeable attachments (for mixing and whipping). The five-step speed control allows you to adjust the operating mode of the device to our needs. In addition, the equipment has a turbo option and protection against accidental removal of the agitators during operation. Even slightly older children can handle this device, so the mixer is perfect for family baking.

Meat grinders, which were used in the 90s, were mainly made of cast iron, which made them heavy. The models bolted to the countertop were also quite bulky, and cleaning the equipment was also not one of the most pleasant tasks. Meat grinders, which we can now find in stores, are much more convenient to use. The Bosh brand model is automatic, so we do not have to grind the meat by hand. The blades are made of stainless steel, and the housing is made of plastic. The set includes several overlays that will allow us to use the device, among others for stuffing sausages, making pates, but also cakes (e.g. cheesecake or poppy seed cake).

Does it make sense to buy a homemade slicer today, when we can easily buy sliced food products? It turns out that it is, and for several reasons. First of all, each of the household members can freely adjust the thickness of the slices, according to their preferences. Secondly, sliced bread or sausage will stay fresh longer and won't dry out. Thirdly, thanks to the slicer, we can largely reduce the amount of plastic waste. If we decide to buy a slicer, remember to use it safely. The Zelmer device has a switch lock that protects against accidental activation of the equipment. Non-slip feet guarantee the slicer stability during operation, while the foldable structure allows for convenient storage of the device when we do not need it.

Prodiż is one of those devices which, although popular in the times of the People's Republic of Poland, have practically disappeared from Polish kitchens today. Although the equipment, by today's standards, looks like from a museum, it is worth taking a closer look, especially as the possibilities offered by the cookware are really big. The device is a retro equivalent of electric ovens. We can bake cakes, meat and casseroles in it, but also refresh stale bread. The cooker will work wherever there is no oven or there is not enough space for it (e.g. in a student apartment, studio apartment, cottage), as well as when you want to prepare a small portion of the dish. The device is electrically powered, and the door with a glass window allows you to control the degree of baking of the dish on an ongoing basis. Remember that before you put the cake or meat in, you should grease the inside of the pan with grease or foil so that the food does not stick to the bottom and edges.

In the 1990s, the toaster felt like in American movies, where toast and orange juice were always served for breakfast. Today we like to use toasters and they are almost the basic element of kitchen equipment. Importantly, a good toaster doesn't have to cost a fortune. We will buy a device of the Polish brand Amica for approx. PLN 80. The toaster has the function of defrosting bread, automatic switch-off and the option of interrupting toasting. In the case of this equipment, the manufacturer focused on classic design, but the market is full of retro-inspired toasters, which will be an additional decoration of the interior.
