This was the case with my several -year -old compact, which in both user ratings and journalistic tests gets good notes for mute.In my opinion, rightly, but looking under the trunk liner or the rear sofa, from where they were picked up by the tracts of bare sheet, I confirmed the belief that it could be even better.I wasn't wrong, but let's start from the beginning.

Potem pozostaje oczyścić wyklejaną powierzchnię i przy pomocy odpowiednio dociętych mat butylowych wykleić od wewnątrz zewnętrzną blachę drzwi, co znacząco ją usztywni i stworzy tło dla głośnika.

As for the difficulty, the back of the vehicle is usually a smaller challenge than the door.In most cases, just remove everything from the trunk and remove its liner and rear seat.The very process of sticking is also much more pleasant due to the large number of flat surfaces and easy access.

I used the same materials here as in the case of a door, i.e. a 2.5 mm butyl mat, which I poured the entire recess on the spare wheel, trunk floor and wheel arches, and all flat planes of the sheet under the rear seat.Then I covered the whole with a tight layer of 6 mm thick rubber foam.Unlike the door, I glued it to the butyl mat, not to the elements of the upholstery.

The re -assembly of the original liner and sofas went without major complications.However, you have to reckon with the fact that after soundproofing, the trunk floor will slightly rise, depending on how thick you use.However, 6 mm thick seems to be an optimal solution, because the effects turned out to be even better than in the case of the door.

Here, I really discovered the power of additional soundproofing.The sound of tire rolling was significantly leveled, to the extent that while sitting behind the wheel, I began to feel more noise from the front than the back wheels.

However, I noticed the biggest difference only on leaky surfaces.The problem of suspension sounds practically disappeared, which significantly affected the comfort of driving along the second category roads.

Surprised by the very good effects of the soundproofing of the back, I decided to try to get the same effect at the front.The more that the quieter back made the sound of the front tires to break in to the fore.However, I did not intend to disassemble the floor coverings, because this would involve dismantling virtually the entire interior.I chose a simpler method, also used by soundproof specialists, i.e. silencing from the outside of a sheet hidden behind the plastic wheel wheel cover and the cover itself.

To do this, remove the front wheels and remove the covers.The view that will be released to your eyes will probably not be too pleasant.In my car, for less than 5 years of use, a lot of dirt has been collected there.It took a lot of time to clean the surface thoroughly - much more than further work.

The sheet is much thicker here than at the back, and next to it we will find a solid lights and reinforcements, so I did not stick the whole stiffening butyl mat.I limited myself to the mounting of the McPherson column and sticking the space separating the wheel arch from the cabin.

The risk that despite the external use of the mat is damaged is small because:

  3. całość jest ukryta za plastikową osłoną.

Pozostała część procesu wygłuszania ogranicza się do jak najdokładniejszego wyklejenia od wewnątrz plastikowych osłon — standardowo matami butylowymi i pianką kauczukową. Potem pozostaje tylko kwestia właściwego montażu, co może być niełatwe z uwagi na zwiększenie grubości plastikowych osłon oklejonych matami i pianką. Wszystko zależy od tego, jakich materiałów użyjecie. Warto się przyłożyć, bo efekty są, choć mniej spektakularne niż po wygłuszeniu tyłu.

Due to the fact that after soundproofing the door, trunk and wheel arches I still have some material, I decided that I would use it on the mask, more out of curiosity, or in any way it would affect the sound of the engine, which was not excessively loud.For this purpose, I bought a non -flammable foam.

The soundproofing of the mask is very easy.Just remove the factory cover, which is mounted on a few plastic hooks, clean the sheet and stick the cut butyl mat on a cleaned sheet metal.I also stuck a non -flammable polyurethane foam, and hid the whole under the factory soundproofing.

It is important not to overdo the foam thickness.In my case, 15 mm was a limit value.With thicker material, I would not be able to install the factory cover again, which would significantly spoil the aesthetics of the engine compartment.

Are there pros?It is difficult to say, because the results on the sonometer after this procedure did not change.Maybe the engine sound at higher speed took on a slightly lower tone, but it may also be a placebo effect.If I had to sound axle again, I would rather give up this part.

The engine in my car was quiet and remained so.Perhaps better results would be muted the top wall, but in most cars it will definitely be the most difficult place to soundproofing, requiring dismantling the floor covering, and in the case of an attempt from the engine chamber approach, many equipment elements.

How much did it all cost and was it worth it?

The materials and accessories used cost PLN 960.The whole took three very long evenings spent in the garage - a total of about 20 hours.I think here we have the answer to the question: Why is the soundproofing in professional workshops so expensive?To this you need to add knowledge what and how to dismantle so as not to damage anything.

In my case, the risk was smaller because I experimented on my own car.Fortunately, it was without problems.There is no question of disturbing sounds, creaks or knocks from disassembled elements of the upholstery.It's even better than after leaving the factory.Apparently, the additional foam eliminated serial deficiencies.

Co do samych efektów wygłuszenia — różnica jest zdecydowanie zauważalna. Przed wygłuszeniem sonometr na miejscu pasażera przy prędkości 100 km/h pokazywał wartość 67,1 dB, teraz jest to 66,3 dB. Mogłoby się wydawać, że to niewielka różnica, ale dla ucha ludzkiego dodatkowe 3 dB to podwojenie natężenia hałasu.

However, I am most happy to reduce the sounds of the chassis while driving on unevenness, which with a rather stiff, factory suspension cannot be overestimated.A side effect, which is difficult to objectively determine, is also a greater sense of solidity and compactness of the car, as well as a better sound of the audio system.Disadvantages?An additional 40 kg of mass - butyl mats, unfortunately, do not belong to the lightest materials, which is why I tried to use them with caution.

Was it worth it?Definitely.At a low cost, it was possible to improve comfort and driving pleasure.I suspect that in cars that already factory have a big problem with mute, you can count on even better results.If you feel strength, try.Rather, you will not regret it.
