On Thursday morning an explosion took place in Kaczorów (Łódź Voivodeship). According to the services, it was most likely a gas explosion. As a result, a single-family house collapsed, inside there was an 81-year-old woman. Outside - before the arrival of the services - witnesses took her out, including the commune administrator. The injured victim was transported to hospital.
As a result of the incident, almost the entire structure of the building collapsed. The junior brigadier Jędrzej Pawlak in an interview with tvn24.pl informs that the wall inside the house has been preserved. And that probably saved the life of the woman inside. - It has not been crushed by any structural elements. After the incident, she was conscious, an ambulance took her to the hospital with burns, says the firefighter.
She points out that the condition of the woman was so good that it was not decided to transport her by the helicopter of the Polish Medical Air Rescue to the Burn Treatment Center in Siemianowice Śląskie. Instead, an ambulance took her to the district office in Skierniewice.

The woman said she was home alone at the time of the explosion. However, this does not change the fact that we have to search the rubble very carefully to make sure that no one has suffered any more - says Pawlak.
"Clothes were still smoldering"
Moments before the explosion, Włodzimierz Ciok, the head of the Nowy Kawęczyn commune, was passing through Kaczorów. After driving through the town, he heard an explosion. He turned and drove to the collapsed building. He knew there might be an elderly woman inside.
- The woman who lives in this building survived because she was in the refrigerator at the time of the explosion. The elements of the roof lying on the room stopped on the refrigerator on one side and on the roof reinforcement on the other - says the local government official.
With the help of two other men, he says, it was possible to get the 81-year-old outside.
- Her clothes were still smoldering. When it was safe, we could put it out - reports the head of the commune.
Explaining the causes
The junior brigadier Jędrzej Pawlak informs that there were several units of the State Fire Service and Volunteer Fire Brigade operating on the site.
- Among other things, a search and rescue group was called. The place was also searched with a dog trained to investigate the rubble, says the firefighter. Ultimately, it was found that there were no other victims under the rubble.
The firefighter points out that it is too early to talk about the causes of the incident.
- Everything indicates that we are dealing with a gas explosion. The officers disconnected the gas tank next to the collapsed building - informs Pawlak.
The tvn24.pl interlocutor adds that the police and construction supervision officers are also present on the site.
