Construction Construction Construction What to consider when choosing interior doors?

Suitable size of interior doors

The basic criterion for choosing interior doors must be their size. What will we gain by choosing even the most beautiful doors, if they do not fit into the recess in our apartment? This is why you should measure its height and width before going shopping. The thickness of the wall is also important as it will have an impact on the required frame.

Adjustable or standard door frame?

The door frame is an indispensable element that you must purchase with the new door. It is the frame in which they will be embedded. The door hinges are mounted on the frame and it keeps them in the right position. However, not everyone is aware of the fact that this is an element not included in the package with the door and should be purchased separately. The frames are available in a fixed or adjustable form.

The difference between fixed and adjustable door frames results mainly from the place of their installation. The first of these are intended for use in modern construction, where the thickness of the walls is approx. 6-10 cm. The second, adjustable, are intended for apartments with different wall thicknesses, mainly due to the grandeur of a given building or the time in which it was built. They will work in such apartments, because the width of the adjustable door frame can be adjusted to a specific wall, and in the case of fixed frames - as the name suggests - there is no such possibility. So if you live in an old block of flats, you will need an adjustable door frame.

Adjustable door frames are usually made of durable and aesthetically finished MDF board, covered with decorative veneer. It consists of a lintel, a lock beam and a hinge beam. Their assembly is very simple and does not require a specialist visit. They are available in several color variants, which allows them to be easily adapted to each door. It is also facilitated by the fact that their widths range from 60 cm to even 100 cm.

Choosing a door frame is relatively simple - with a standard door size of 80 cm, you will also need a door frame in the size of 80 cm. However, to make sure that it will actually work, measure the hole in which it is to be located. How to do it? It is enough when buying to be guided by the obtained height and width of the empty space. However, remember to measure the hole in several places - it may turn out that it is not the same along its entire length. You should also not forget to measure the thickness of the wall, because it determines whether the adjustable frame will be appropriate, or whether it will be better if it is fixed. Buying the right door frames is important because wrongly selected or improperly installed door frames will not only be impractical, but will also destroy the beauty of the interior and the purchased door.

Internal doors made of solid material

Of course, the material from which the door is made is also very important. Shops that sell them offer materials such as wood, MDF boards or glass - each of them will work in a different arrangement, which gives a lot of possibilities. As an element for a private apartment, put on a wooden or MDF door with tasteful glazing. Glass doors will prove themselves in modern apartments as well as in corporate offices.

Buying the right interior doors is not only about choosing the right size, material or frame - their pattern, purpose, e.g. for a room or bathroom, and the side they will open are equally important. Take all of these factors into account and you can be sure that you are making the right purchase.
