4 rules for installing internal window sills | We are building a house

Here are the most important rules for installing internal window sills:

1) The space between the window frame and the wall below should be sealed with polyurethane mounting foam. It is inappropriate to replace the foam with mortar, because then the filling will become a thermal bridge cooling the window sill.

2) The edge of the window sill should be inserted under the window frame to a depth of min. 1 cm. A slightly worse solution is to embed the window sill in contact with the frame (the contact point should be filled with sealing compound).

3) It is good to wedge the window sill in 3-5 cm deep holes cut in the walls, but if it rests on a wide strip of wall, it is not necessary and then it is best to fix it with glue.

4) Ideally, the distance between the window sill and the radiator is 10-20 cm; the window sill should be extended enough to completely cover the radiator (if this distance is smaller, the window sill should not cover the radiator).
