Would you like to cover the camera in Tesla "for privacy"? In FSD beta 10.2 you will lose access to Autopilot • ELECTRIC CARS – www.elektrowoz.pl

Tesla is preparing to implement driver behavior monitoring mechanisms. In the new FSD 10.2, which is available to selected beta testers, it is no longer possible to cover the camera looking inside the cockpit. That is to say: the possibility is there, but it means the necessity to take over the steering wheel immediately.

The car must control the driver

When Tesla launched a camera looking inside the cabin, some Americans saw it as an invasion of their privacy. Meanwhile, in the latest FSD 10.2 - currently available to a small group of beta testers - the manufacturer goes a step further. Well, to turn on Autopilot, a semi-autonomous driving system, it requires the camera not to be obscured. An attempt to cover it immediately disables the mechanism (source).

That's not all: the electronics watches the driver more closely and can remind him to watch the traffic lights and react to changing lights (red -> green). The car can automatically activate the washers and wipers to clean the windshield. Overall FSD 10.2 sees more and controls people not to spend too much time looking at their phone screen. Any attempt to "feature check" can cause their driving grade to drop to levels where they shouldn't be allowed access to the FSD beta at all.

Is that why Tesla is going in this direction? Regulations or announcements are gradually beginning to appear in the world that a car with a semi-autonomous driving system must watch the driver closely. We are literally talking about watching, the car is supposed to check whether the driver's eyes are open and whether he is controlling the traffic on the road. In combination with the steering wheel monitoring mechanism (hands on/off the wheel), we have a set: a person looks at the road (eyes) and is able to react to the problem (hands).
