It is well known that placing hidden cameras or wiretapping is illegal. But what if we suspect that the monitoring device may be in a place where we are temporarily staying, or worse, in our home? The question is answered by an expert - Ewa Barci.

How to find a hidden camera?

If the camera is located in a public place, the person entering it should be informed about it. The presence of a recording device must also be properly justified. The administrator of the monitoring data is most often the owner of the place where the monitoring has been established. The processor is the operator of the monitoring system. The camera can record only the image - only the secret services can record the image and sound.

Marcus Hutchins, a cybersecurity specialist, posted a video on his TikToku explaining how you can tell if a camera is hidden in the room. To do this, point the flashlight's light source at the place we suspect. If the reflection we get is blue, there is probably a recording device hidden there. This method, although it allows you to notice even small camera lenses, is not a professional method.

Hidden cameras - expert opinion

We asked an expert, Ewa Barci, who has been working as a licensed detective for 20 years, in a professional way. anti-eavesdropping tests. It is very difficult to find a monitoring device on your own if it is installed by specialists. If the camera is put on by a layman who earlier manages to enter e.g. a room we rent and drop it off, you can try to find it yourself - explains the expert.

- People who, however, fear that the monitoring equipment may have been worn by professionals, usually use the aforementioned tests. Cameras and wiretaps set up by people who know their stuff can be placed anywhere - even in the floor or in the walls, which is why we recommend using the services of specialists in such situations - adds Ewa Barci.
