There is an agreement with Iran on the replacement of cameras at the Karaj nuclear plant

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said on Wednesday that it had reached an agreement with the Iranian authorities to replace surveillance cameras installed at Tesa's facility in Karaj near Tehran. The plant produces parts for uranium enrichment centrifuges.

"The agreement with Iran to replace surveillance cameras at the Karaj facility is an important step forward for the Agency's verification and monitoring activities in Iran," the IAEA said in a statement.

"This will enable us to restore the necessary continuity of information about this object" - it was added and it was specified that new cameras would be installed "in the coming days". Previously, the Iranian government had consistently refused access to the IAEA equipment maintenance center for several months.

One camera was destroyed and one damaged in June during an attack on the Tesa facility, the perpetrators of which have not been detected. Iran attributed the attack to Israel and removed all four IAEA cameras from there, preventing the agency from continuing to monitor the facility.

The Tesa center manufactures parts for advanced centrifuges - uranium enrichment machines. The IAEA expressed concern that Iran's refusal to admit equipment restorers there could indicate that work on the construction of an atomic bomb was taking place there. (PAP)
