Popocatepetl is one of the most famous volcanoes in the world. Among other things, he appeared in Malcolm Lowry's book "Under the Volcano", describing the story of an alcoholic British diplomat. Its name comes from the Aztec language and means "smoking mountain". This is an obvious reference to the clouds of smoke coming out during an eruption. Popocatepetl (5452 m above sea level) is also the second highest peak in Mexico. It is second only to Pico de Orizaba (5610 m above sea level).
