Refrigerators can do more and more. They will be shopping soon

As American Insider reports, Amazon is working on a refrigerator that will be able to automatically analyze its contents, catch products that are running out and order them from Amazon Fresh or Whole Foods online stores. It is supposed to use some of the technology found in Amazon Go checkout stores - there are sensors and cameras that monitor what products shoppers take from the shelves.

The refrigerator referred to by Amazon as Project Pulse is also to notify the user that the products in it are approaching their best-before date. Recipe suggestions are another idea - the fridge would suggest what dish to prepare from a product whose expiration date is about to expire. It would also give advice on health and nutrition.

Amazon won't produce the smart fridge alone. Appliance manufacturers are supposed to do it for him - the company has already held talks with many large companies in the industry. The team has been working on a smart refrigerator project for at least two years. It is not clear when the device will officially appear, and it is even possible that Amazon will close the project, according to Insider information. A spokesman for the retail giant declined to comment on the site's reports.

The smart fridge is a sign of Amazon's expansion into making its own appliances. Last week, the company unveiled the Astro home robot. He also sells his TV in the US. It also offers a microwave oven and, of course, smart speakers with Alexa voice assistant.

It is worth knowing that today we will find similar solutions in refrigerators available on the market, although they are not so advanced yet. An example is the Samsung Family Hub device, which has been on sale in Poland for several years.

- It is important for users to make their home more and more "smart", i.e. one that really advises and helps. According to this idea, the refrigerator is no longer just a device for storing food, but it participates in creating a shopping list, ordering products from the store, and even - advises recipes based on its content and preferences of the household member - says Business Insider Polska Olaf Krynicki, Samsung's spokesperson.

The Samsung Family Hub Refrigerator has built-in cameras so you can see what's inside. Pictures are taken each time the door is closed. You can see them on the screen of your smartphone or fridge display. This makes it easier to organize everyday meals and plan purchases, and also reduces the risk of spoilage. You can assign an expiration date to each product and thanks to this, the display will remind you to consume it before this date expires.

- Samsung Electronics does not collect or store consumer data on the contents of their refrigerators, assures Krynicki.

The touchscreen placed on the refrigerator also allows you to shop for groceries in the Frisco.pl e-shop, which will deliver them to your home. Samsung's cooperation with Frisco.pl began in 2019, when the store served the Warsaw agglomeration. Today, shopping at Frisco.pl can also be ordered in Wrocław, Poznań and Kraków.

The panel on the refrigerator is fully multimedia - it allows you to play music, watch movies or browse the Internet.

- The development of Family Hub smart refrigerators is in line with current trends such as Connected Living and IoT (Internet of Things). Consumers can control the ecosystem of home appliances, including the centrally located kitchen and refrigerator, from the smartphone level - sums up Olaf Krynicki.
