- The District Prosecutor's Office in Wołomin filed an indictment against Ryszard R. with the District Court of Warsaw-Praga in Warsaw. robbery – said Katarzyna Skrzeczkowska, spokeswoman for the Warsaw-Praga District Prosecutor's Office on Friday.

Investigators determined that the 57-year-old hit his victim three times with a metal pipe in the head, as well as in the torso and hands.

The event took place on January 10 this year. in Ząbki. approx. 18 witnesses passing by a vegetable store at the intersection of Powstańców and Generała Stanisława Maczka streets, informed the officers of the Police Headquarters in Ząbki about the struggle in the premises.

People who called for help saw one person dragging another across the floor through the glass. The lights were then turned off and the windows were closed. The perpetrator fled.

"He was lying in a pool of blood"

- The ambulance crew who arrived on the scene found the injured grocer's owner lying in a pool of blood. The victim with severe head injuries was transported to the WUM Hospital, where he died during the night, Prosecutor Skrzeczkowska reported.

Police officers have identified several people who were suspected of committing the crime, but their participation in the event has not been confirmed. The recording from cameras monitoring the vicinity of the crime scene captured the image of a man moving in a characteristic way. Police determined that he was entering the store at the same time that witnesses observed a struggle. It was also possible to recreate that the perpetrator, after leaving the store, was moving towards Piłsudskiego Street.

On January 21, officers of the Criminal Terror and Homicide Department of the KSP detained Ryszard R. from Wyszków. His DNA was revealed on a cloth glove, which the police secured at the crime scene. The 57-year-old was also examined with a polygraph.

The experiment showed that the suspect reacted to the questions asked as a person who could be the perpetrator, but during the first interrogation he did not admit his guilt. He changed his mind only during the arrest meeting and himself asked the court to lock him in a remand prison.

He said that before the incident he watched the greengrocer, and on January 10 he attacked the 67-year-old owner by hitting him on the head with a metal pipe. The suspect also said that as a result of the robbery he became richer by PLN 2,000. As the investigation progressed, he changed his explanation again.

- The suspect changed his position several times as to confessing to committing the act he was accused of, prosecutor Skrzeczkowska said.

Who is Ryszard R.?

The accused Ryszard R. was punished in the past. In 1995, the Ostrołęka Regional Court convicted him of attempted murder with a firearm, also in connection with a robbery.

The man spent over 20 years in prisons. He is currently under arrest. For the crime in Ząbki, he is facing a penalty of 8 years to life imprisonment.

The investigators established that Ryszard R. lived abroad before his arrest and, according to the officers, planned to escape to Norway after the crime.
