iPhone 14 - models, price, technical specifications, curiosities [UPDATE 02/11/2022]

In mid-September 2021, Apple presented new smartphones from the iPhone 13 family. The giant from Cupertino dealt with production problems and did not have to delay the premiere of its smartphones.

iPhone 13 is one of the most popular smartphones in recent weeks, but just a few days before the premiere, a huge leak about the iPhone 14 hit the network.

Analysts suggest that after two years of small updates, Apple will finally decide to launch a completely new, revolutionary smartphone. Of course, we are talking about the iPhone 14.

In this material we collect all the information about the next generation of iPhone flagship models.

iPhone 14 - the name is obvious

In the case of upcoming iPhone models, we don't have to wonder what they will be called. Next year, Apple will bet on a proven scheme. The smartphones will be named iPhone 14 mini, iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Apple moved away from the s in 2019 and launched a brand new model every year. Following in the footsteps of the competition, the giant from Cupertino changes the number next to the name of the iPhone every year.

iPhone 14 - how many models can we count on?

It is said on the web that Apple may modify the model line. The smallest model with the addition of mini in the name may disappear from the offer. After the disappointing sales results of the iPhone 12 mini, the company decided to refresh it, but the iPhone 13 mini is probably the last small smartphone from Apple.

The following models should appear on the market:

The place of the iPhone 14 mini may be taken by the iPhone 14 Max, which will receive a larger screen with a diagonal of 6.5-6.8 inches.

iPhone 14 - price

Price is always one of the most important information that we expect from the manufacturer during the presentation. When it comes to the iPhone, the prices of flagship models have not changed since 2017. In the case of smaller models, it was different - sometimes the iPhone became more expensive, and sometimes cheaper.

The current price list is as follows:

We expect the iPhone 14 to cost similarly. From the first unconfirmed information and historical prices, we can assume that we will pay for the iPhone 14:

iPhone 14 - processor

It's no secret that the heart of the iPhone 14 will be the Apple A16 chip. It is likely that Apple will use a 3nm technological process. We do not know any technical details at the moment, but it is certain that the system will be more efficient than the Apple A15 Bionic from the iPhone 13.

In addition, already in the base, the whole should be combined with 6 GB of operating memory. The Pro and Pro Max models can receive 8 GB of RAM.

iPhone 14 - display

Apple should use LTPO OLED displays in every iPhone 14 model. Unfortunately, not every smartphone will probably get ProMotion. This means that the base models will still receive 60 Hz content refresh.

iPhone 14 will certainly get a Super Retina XDR display.

There are talk of models with a diagonal of 6.1 and 6.7 inches. The model with a smaller 5.4-inch panel will probably disappear from the market.

The iPhone 14 screen could be revolutionary for one reason. Apple won't significantly improve the quality of the content displayed, but it should eliminate the notch in the screen that appeared in 2017.

iPhone 14 and Touch ID?

The return of Touch ID to the iPhone has been talked about for a long time. We hoped that this element would appear in the iPhone 12. Later we expected it in the iPhone 13, and now in the iPhone 14. As you can see, we've been waiting for Touch ID for a long time and there is no indication that Apple will bring the fingerprint reader back to its flagships smartphones.

iPhone 14 - camera

In 2021, the iPhone got a major camera update. All models got new matrices, which were previously in the Pro Max model. The software has also been worked on, and the new Apple A15 Bionic processor allowed the use of movie mode and recording in ProRes (Pro and Pro Max models only).

We do not have confirmed information about the cameras in the iPhone 14, but the natural evolution will be the addition of higher resolution matrices that will allow you to record videos in 8K resolution.

The front camera will probably also be a novelty, which will no longer be placed in the cutout, but directly in the display.

iPhone 14 - what about the Lightning port?

iPhone 14 will certainly still offer a magnetic MagSafe connector. More importantly, it may be the only port in next year's smartphones. It is said that due to the outdated design and the need to unify the connectors in mobile phones in the European Union, Apple will completely abandon the use of the Lightning socket.

This may mean that the iPhone will only be able to charge wirelessly.

iPhone 14 - battery

iPhone 13 did not introduce a revolution in battery capacity and charging speed. We're hoping Apple will catch up with the competition at the launch of the iPhone 14. We expect the phones to get faster MagSafe charging with at least 25W.

iPhone 14 - software

iPhone 14 will debut on the market with the iOS 16 operating system, which will be presented at the WWDC 2022 conference in June 2022.

iPhone 14 finally without a notch in the screen!

Apple has managed to reduce its size after four years of using a notch in the screen. Smartphones from the iPhone 13 family have a notch whose volume is about 20% smaller.

It is very possible that next year's iPhone 14 will catch up with the competition and will generally not have a cutout in the screen.

The latest information available on the web suggests that Apple will finally get rid of the notch in next year's models. Instead of a cutout, we will get a full-screen design, and the FaceTime selfie camera will be placed in the screen - under the speaker for conversations integrated into the frame.

According to a well-known analyst - Ming Chi-Kuo - the giant from Cupertino will finally catch up with the Android competition and get rid of the characteristic screen design.

Apple will not choose to place the camera directly below the display.

Information about the return of Touch ID to the iPhone has also hit the network. The fingerprint reader will return, but probably not until 2023. The sensor will be integrated with the touch layer of the display.

We currently don't have any information on how the Face ID system works without the notch in the screen. It is possible that some sensors will be integrated into the OLED panel or moved to the frame. Alternatively, all elements can be found in a new webcam that will be placed in the display.

iPhone 14 will debut without a model with a flexible screen

For several years, the web has been full of rumors about the iPhone with a flexible screen. After the premiere of Samsung Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X, the amount of alleged information about the folded iPhone, which will also be an iPad, has increased significantly.

Apple has not presented any device with a flexible screen to date. According to the company, this technology is not yet developed and refined enough to be used in consumer products. However, this does not mean that engineers are not working on improving it.

Unfortunately, according to Ming-Chi-Kuo, smartphones from the iPhone 14 family will not offer a model with a flexible screen. Apple will introduce a foldable smartphone to the market in two or three years at the earliest. This means that the premiere of such a device will take place in 2023 or 2024.

Apple smartphone with a flexible screen will work like an iPhone when folded. When unfolded, it should turn into a tablet similar in size to the iPad mini.

iPhone 14 to be "completely redesigned"

iPhone 13 is just a boring 12k upgrade for you? If so, we have good news. It turns out that other sources confirm our assumptions. iPhone 13 can be a smartphone to wait. Apple intends to launch a completely redesigned iPhone, and its debut is expected as early as next year. That is, we are talking about a smartphone from the iPhone 14 family.

A few years ago, Apple decided to launch a new generation of iPhone every two years. In the middle of the life cycle, the smartphone was getting an update that brought new components and additional improvements.

Since the launch of the iPhone 11, the giant from Cupertino has abandoned this action. Over the past three years, every year we received a new generation marked with the next number. This is how we got to the launch of the iPhone 13.

The current iPhone design was introduced last year. The rounded casing used by the three generations of the iPhone has been replaced with a more angular equivalent reminiscent of the iPhone 4.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman believes the next major iPhone update bringing a brand new look on board will arrive next year.

According to Gurman, in 2022 Apple will prepare a real iPhone redesign for us, which we have been waiting for for several years. The journalist claims that the subtle update of the iPhone 13 only confirms the fact that a completely new smartphone is being created in Apple's laboratories.

Currently, we do not know exactly what the iPhone 14 will look like. Ming Chi-Kuo believes that Apple will get rid of the notch in the screen, but this is only a rumor. We have to wait for more detailed information at least until the second quarter of 2022.

UPDATE 09/27/2021

It's almost certain - the end of small iPhone models!

In 2020, Apple responded to the requests of its users and launched the compact edition of the iPhone 12 with a 5.4-inch screen. However, it soon turned out that the model with the largest screen gained the greatest popularity. The iPhone 12 Pro Max turned out to be a bull's-eye, and the iPhone 12 mini was a dud.

Apple relaunched the compact model in 2021, but for the second year in a row, it's the most expensive and largest models that sell best.

Sales numbers speak for themselves, and Apple is not going to ignore them.

We already know that the iPhone 14 will offer a lot of changes and will be a completely new smartphone. The big update is the perfect opportunity for Apple to get rid of the iPhone with a smaller screen.

This does not mean, however, that only three models will debut on the market. Instead of the iPhone 14 mini, Apple will present the iPhone 14 Max. It will be a slightly more expensive, but also noticeably larger version of the base iPhone 14.

This means that the base model of the iPhone 14 will become cheaper. The iPhone 14 should cost as much as you currently have to pay for the iPhone 13 mini.

iPhone 14 Max will offer a 6.7-inch screen. The rest of the components will be borrowed from the smaller model with a 6.1-inch display.

All next year's models should offer a 120Hz screen.

It is possible that the role of iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 13 mini will be taken by the next generation of iPhone SE. The current model has external dimensions similar to the iPhone 13 mini, and on board we will find an even smaller screen with a diagonal of 4.7 inches.

UPDATED 1/10/2021

iPhone 14 with a different type of memory and 2 TB configuration

iPhone 13 was presented only a few weeks ago, and more and more accurate leaks about next year's smartphones from Apple are coming to the network. We already know that the iPhone 14 should offer a lot of changes. This will be the biggest update in several years. In addition to a completely new look, the giant from Cupertino will decide on significant changes in components.

The latest report suggests that Apple will abandon the use of NVMe storage, which we know from recent models. Instead of memory made in TLC flash technology, we should expect QLC chips.

The iPhone 13 series are the first smartphones from Apple that we can configure with 1 TB of storage. The carriers are produced in TLC technology by Kioxia (formerly Toshiba).

According to reports, Apple chose Kioxia over Samsung due to lower memory production costs.

Partners are already testing new components for the iPhone 14, including QLC memory. Unfortunately, their use in the iPhone 14 may have negative effects after prolonged use of the phone. QLC memory is not as efficient and reliable as TLC memory.

In addition, a model with 2 TB of storage should appear as an option.

iPhone 14 Pro/Pro Max with Face ID in the screen

The latest technical sheet of smartphones from the iPhone 14 family assumes that only the Pro/Pro Max models will get rid of the cutouts in the screen. They will receive Face ID placed directly on the screen. The base iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max models will still offer a notch.

The technical specification also confirms the presence of 120 Hz screens only in the Pro/Pro Max models. The novelty will be the Apple A16 Bionic processor, which will be produced in 4 nm.

iPhone 14 may be more expensive! Blame high production costs

Apple launched the iPhone X in 2017 and shocked the market. The smartphone received 3D face scanning and several other innovative solutions. It was also the most expensive iPhone ever. Its suggested retail price in Poland started from PLN 5,199 for the version with 64 GB of built-in storage.

Currently, most flagship Android models are sold at a similar price. The iPhone 13 Pro in the basic configuration still costs PLN 5,199.

Unfortunately, the latest information indicates that Apple may decide to increase the prices of smartphones from the iPhone 14 family. All due to rising production costs.

The estimated cost of building smartphones from Apple is growing and is noticeably higher than the competition. It costs Apple $570 to produce a single iPhone 13 Pro. Last year, the production cost of the iPhone 12 Pro was $548.50.

For comparison, the production cost of the Samsung Galaxy S21+ is $508. Its suggested retail price is the same as the iPhone 13 Pro. Both devices in the US sell for $999.

UPDATED 08/10/2021

iPhone 14 with a note though? Unfortunately, it's possible!

Even before the launch of the iPhone 13, there was a lot of information on the web about the revolutionary design of the iPhone, which will appear on the market in 2022. Several sources assumed that the device would be deprived of ports and lose the notch in the screen known since 2017 without giving up the 3D face scanning system.

Unfortunately, the latest information that hits the web somewhat cools the enthusiasm. The report contradicts the reports of Ming Chi-Kuo and Jon Prosser. It assumes that the iPhone 14 will still offer a screen with a cutout.

Information coming from the Chinese portal Weibo was first noticed by the MacRumors portal. They seem credible as the same account previously reported the launch of the 9th generation iPad prior to the California Streaming event.

Apple is to continue to use the notch further reducing its external size. Due to the Face ID system, the company will not switch to using displays with a camera in the screen.

The latest rumor seems to be credible. The True Depth camera system requires physical space to function properly. If Apple wants to give up the notch, it will probably have to get rid of Face ID as well, and this is a very unlikely vision.

In addition, consumers have already become accustomed to the appearance of the iPhone, which has become its hallmark. A quick glance at the front of the device is enough to distinguish the iPhone from other Android smartphones.

UPDATED 10/11/2021

Apple tests iPhone with 120Hz screen without notch

The Cupertino giant is already working on a screen that will go to the next generation iPhone. Although the premiere will not take place until September 2022, the work is already at an advanced stage. Apple has plenty to do as the company prepares to remove the screen notch. The first year in this direction was the reduction of the notch in the models of the iPhone 13 family.

According to information provided by Digital Chat Station, Apple is working on a new Pro Motion display with a camera placed in the panel. This means that the iPhone 14 could offer a front screen similar to popular Android smartphones.

Earlier, Ming Chi-Kuo informed about the display with the camera placed inside. Mark Gurman, in turn, provides information about a completely new design, which may also refer to the removal of the notch, which has been a characteristic element of almost every smartphone from Apple since 2017.

Visualization of the iPhone 14 Pro without the notch in the screen

A video has also been released on the network, which shows what the next year's iPhone model may look like, which will not have a notch in the screen screen.

The iPhone 14 seen in the visualization has an appearance consistent with previous leaks from Jon Prosser. On the back there is a lens housing that does not protrude beyond the outline of the device. On the front you can see a large display surrounded by minimal frames. There is no cutout in the panel. Instead, we have a webcam placed centrally under the speaker for calls. We know this solution, among others, from the Samsung Galaxy S21.

Why did Apple drop the s-suffix designation?

Apple from 2009 to 2018 launched iPhone models with the s-suffix. These were smartphones that used the housing known from the previous generation. The Cupertino giant did not officially explain the meaning of the word s, but Phil Schiller reported that in the case of the iPhone 3GS it referred to speed. At the time of its release, it was the fastest iPhone on the market, leaving the 3G model far behind.

iPhone 14 - models, price, specification technical, interesting facts [UPDATE 2/11/2022]

Since 2019, Apple no longer uses proven naming and there is no indication that it will return to the thatches.

Apple has abandoned the use of the letter s in the naming of its smartphones for purely marketing reasons. Adding an s at the end instead of changing the number suggested to consumers that it wasn't worth buying the new model as it was just a slight upgrade.

For this reason, we should not count on the return of models with the letter s. A perfect example of this is the premiere of the iPhone 13, which did not introduce any revolutionary features, focusing on improving existing elements - display, cameras and battery life.

UPDATE 10/14/2021

iPhone 14 will debut in a new, budget version

We expect Apple to completely redesign smartphones from the iPhone 14 family last year. The latest rumors assume that a new, slightly more budget model will also appear on the market . What do we know about him?

According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, a new smartphone from the iPhone 14 series will debut on store shelves, which will be noticeably cheaper than other models. This smartphone is aimed at users who want an iPhone, but at the same time do not intend to spend several thousand zlotys on it.

The new model will differ from its more expensive counterparts. There will be an IPS LCD screen and a worse camera on board, but Apple does not intend to give up the built-in 5G network modem and a powerful processor.

We know for a long time that Apple is working on a cheap iPhone model. Until now, we thought it would be the iPhone SE 2022, but the latest rumors suggest that we will see the iPhone 14 instead. Will the smartphone be called the iPhone 14 Lite? We won't find out until next year.

UPDATE 10/22/2021

iPhone 14 Gets First Design Change in Five Years

Consumers who aren't happy with the look of iPhone 13 have reason to rejoice. Everything indicates that next year Apple will thoroughly redesign the appearance of its smartphones.

For the first time in history, we can expect an iPhone with an in-screen camera. Rumors about getting rid of the notch have been with us for several years, but so far they have only translated into minimizing the size of the cutout in the screen.

The first rumors from the supply chain of components for the iPhone suggest that the model will receive a completely new housing. Apple is already exploring the possibilities and costs of its production.

In addition, LG is already designing a new Super Retina XDR display with a camera placed in the panel especially for Apple.

Due to the presence of components necessary for the operation of Face ID, the mesh with the cameras will be clearly larger than that of competing Android smartphones.

Ben Geskin has already shared the visuals of the iPhone 14 online. The front panel looks controversial, but still the large pill-shaped cameras look much better than the notch.

UPDATE 10/25/2021

Detailed report reveals iPhone 14 screen design

Last week, information about the display that could be used in the production of the iPhone 14 leaked online. Thanks to the Chinese social network Weibo, a larger amount of data.

Apple is currently negotiating a deal with LG Display. It concerns the production of displays for next year's iPhone models.

The Mydrivers portal has found information suggesting getting rid of the notch in the screen. It is currently known that the characteristic element is missing in the more expensive Pro and Pro Max models. It is possible that Apple will deliberately leave a notch in the screen in the cheaper models of the iPhone 14 family to distinguish them from more expensive brothers.

Apple intends to use LG for the production of screens, which this year gave up the production of its own smartphones.

The company is to design and manufacture a display without a cutout in the screen, but with space for the front camera and elements of the Face ID system. The longitudinal gap in the screen will be shaped like a pill. LG is to help design a new camera system. Koreans have experience in research on cameras placed in and under screens. Using their knowledge will be cheaper for Apple than developing its own research.

There is almost a year left until the launch of the iPhone 14. The situation may change several times. LG is unlikely to be the only manufacturer of displays for the iPhone 14.

UPDATE 10/27/2021

What can Apple borrow from the competition for the iPhone 14?

It's no secret that tech companies are closely monitoring the situation at their biggest competitors. It often happens that certain features or solutions appear within a short period of time in most flagship models. It was so with fingerprint readers in the screen or 120 Hz screens.

What solutions can Apple borrow from other tech giants?

Unification of color versions

Apple has a lot of products in its portfolio, which are sold in different color versions. Unfortunately, the giant from Cupertino has a big problem with them. The problem is that the color Space Gray has different shades in different products. Sometimes it falls into black, and on other devices into graphite.

In addition, the same color versions on different generations of smartphones have a different shade. We are talking, among others, about the special version (PRODUCT)RED.

Apple should take an example from Samsung or Google and unify the color versions of their devices.

A less striking camera island

The lens housing found on Apple's current flagships has grown to gigantic proportions. In addition, the cameras significantly protrude beyond the outline of the housing, which increases the risk of accidental damage.

We cannot escape from large modules with cameras, because their size positively affects the quality of photography. On the market, however, we will find devices with a better designed lens housing.

We are talking, among others, about the latest Pixel 6, which draws patterns from the flagship Samsung from 2019.

Always-on-Display

Always-on-Display is a feature we've been waiting for for several years. In 2021, a lot of rumors hit the network that suggested that this solution would go to smartphones from the iPhone 13 family. Unfortunately, this did not happen, so we are waiting for the iPhone 14 with AOD.

The always-on display allows you to communicate the most important phone information and notifications without having to unlock it. This solution has been successfully used by manufacturers of Android devices for years.

Fingerprint reader placed under the screen

Instead of integrating the Touch ID fingerprint reader with the touch layer of the screen, Apple decided to completely remove it from its flagship smartphones. This decision took revenge on the Cupertino giant during the coronavirus pandemic. It turned out then that 3D face scanning does not work when wearing a mask.

Touch ID in the screen was supposed to debut together with the iPhone 12. Unfortunately, this solution did not make it to the iPhone 13 either. We hope that next year Apple will finally bring Touch ID back to flagship models iPhone.

UPDATED November 3, 2021

iPhone 14 will get an old processor!

The latest news about one of Apple's subcontractors is not optimistic. According to analysts, new Apple mobile products for 2022 were to offer modern processors produced in an innovative 3 nm technological process. Unfortunately, TSMC - the largest chip subcontractor for Apple is struggling with serious problems that may delay the launch of 3nm production.

According to engineers who are intimately familiar with the matter, TSMC will not be able to produce 3nm processors until the release of the iPhone 14. This means one thing - Apple will have to use 5nm chips again .

The good news is that TSMC, despite the delays, is still to be the first manufacturer of chips manufactured in the 3 nm technological process. Therefore, Apple may still be the first manufacturer of devices equipped with 3nm processors, but this element is unlikely to make its way to the iPhone 14 series in the fall of 2022.

What this means for users. First of all, the iPhone 14 will not offer noticeably longer battery life. On the other hand, iPhone 13 owners cannot complain about this aspect.

UPDATED November 4, 2021

Apple A16 Bionic - what do we know about the iPhone 14 processor?

In early November, not very optimistic news about the iPhone 14 processor hit the network. It turns out that the chip will probably not be made in 3 nm in the technological process due to its implementation by Apple's subcontractor - TSMC.

What will the Apple A16 Bionic processor look like and what will it offer?

Currently, Apple equips its mobile devices with processors manufactured in a 5 nm technological process. The transition from 7nm last year allowed for a significant increase in performance while reducing power consumption. Thanks to this treatment, the iPhone 13 offers such long working times away from the charger.

It is said that due to problems with the implementation of production in 3nm, Apple intends to produce the Apple A16 Bionic chip in 4nm. This seemingly small step will allow for further improvement in efficiency while reducing energy demand.

Apple is likely to use an intermediate technological process. We expect performance gains over the Apple A15 Bionic from the iPhone 13 to be around 10% while improving battery life.

iPhone 14 visualizations go online

There is almost a year left until the premiere of the iPhone 14, and the first visualizations are already going online. At this stage, we should not take them seriously yet, but on the other hand, they show changes that should be included in the final product in a similar form.

So how does the iPhone 14 look like on one of the first renders?

We'll start with the fact that the iPhone 14 Pro hit the network. The visualization was made by Waqar Khan, who is known for introducing us to upcoming smartphones long before their premiere.

The iPhone 14 Pro in the video does not have a cutout in the screen. Instead, there is a selfie camera located centrally in the middle of the housing. This procedure allowed the redesign of the notification bar. Among other things, the percentage of battery charge status has returned, which we will not find in any model with a cutout in the screen.

The back looks interesting. On the one hand, it looks almost identical to the currently sold models. However, a trained eye will notice a significant change. The lenses do not protrude above the outline of the housing. They are completely hidden in it.

On the bezel we find the volume buttons transferred directly from the iPhone 5s. They have round buttons and signs + and -.

The back and frame are made of glossy glass. There is still a charging port at the bottom.

Apple may not be able to produce 3nm chip for iPhone 14

Recently, we reported that due to chip shortages and production problems, Apple may not be able to produce 3nm chips for iPhone 14. The latest leaks assume that it is possible to overcome the limitations and introduce the 3nm Apple A16 chip into production so that it hits the market in September together with smartphones from the iPhone 14 family.

The latest report from Digitimes portals assumes that TSMC may be able to implement production in 3nm in the second half of 2022. Such a situation would allow for a quick start of production of 3 nm Apple A16 Bionic chips around the holidays. So Apple would have time to produce the right amount of iPhones before the September premiere.

Apple is TSMC's biggest customer and certainly has the first 3nm production slots secured. The Cupertino giant was already one of the first customers for chips produced in 5 nm.

Regardless of the problems with production in 3 nm, Apple together with TSMC are already planning to prepare R&D activities for the implementation of production in 2 nm. The roadmap is currently not known yet.

iPhone 14 - no mini model and return of Touch ID

LeaksApplePro gave its predictions for next year's iPhone models. It assumes that Apple is working intensively on a foldable iPhone model, but its premiere will take place only in 2023 or 2024.

The iPhone 14 will debut on the market in four variants - two with a 6.1-inch screen (iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro) and two with a 6.7-inch screen (iPhone 14 Max and iPhone 14 Pro Max). There will be no mini model. Smartphones with smaller screens will become a thing of the past. The only small iPhone will remain the SE model.

The base iPhone model will again have a 6.1-inch screen.

LeaksApplePro believes that the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max may receive a Touch ID fingerprint reader. In cheaper models, there will be a cutout in the screen, which we will not see in the top Pro / ProMax models.

iPhone 14 will receive Wi-Fi 6E support

The well-known TF Securities analyst Ming Chi-Kuo presented his latest predictions for smartphones from the iPhone 14 family. According to him, the Wi-Fi 6E module will appear on board .

In his latest investor note, Kuo mentions upcoming Apple products. In addition to the iPhone 14, there is also a set of AR goggles. Both devices are to receive a new wireless network module compatible with the latest Wi-Fi 6E standard.

According to Ming Chi-Kuo, Wi-FI 6E is essential to provide high-speed data transfers wirelessly to upcoming AR and VR goggles.

In the latest note, Kuo first confirmed that the iPhone 14 will receive Wi-Fi 6E. Earlier, there were rumors on the web suggesting the presence of this module in the iPhone 13. Today we know that they were wrong.

Wi-Fi 6E, like Wi-Fi 6, allows you to transfer data in three bands - 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz, but the bandwidth has not increased, which is still a maximum of 9.6 Gbps. Wi-Fi 6E allows you to take full advantage of the 6 GHz band and increase data transfer speeds.

Wi-Fi 6E will appear on Apple smartphones three years after the debut of Wi-Fi 6. The first smartphones with Wi-Fi 6 are models from the iPhone 11 family.

UPDATED November 19, 2021

iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max may debut with USB Type-C on board

For many years there has been talk of Apple switching to USB Type-C ports on iPhone smartphones. These rumors were fueled by the premiere of the first iPad with USB Type-C, but Apple consistently uses the Lightning connector in its smartphones from 2012. Unfortunately, this solution is outdated and also causes compatibility issues because a special USB to Lightning cable is required.

New rumors have hit the network that raise the presence of a USB Type-C port in smartphones from the iPhone 14 family. Unfortunately, they are not very optimistic, but very real. They indicate that Apple will actually use USB Type C, but this port will only go to the more expensive iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max smartphones. The cheaper iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max models will still be equipped with Lightning.

Apple will promote USB Type-C as an option for professionals. This connector will allow for faster data transfer, which is especially important in the case of Pro models with ProRes support.

It is possible that the USB Type-C port on the iPhone 14 will use the USB 4 standard, which has already been implemented in the latest iPad Pro models. Thanks to the new technology, ripping videos from the iPhone 14 Pro/Pro Max will be much faster.

iPhone 14 without Apple-designed 5G modem

Apple has been trying for several years to become independent from Qualcomm and design its own mobile network modem. For this reason, the Intel department responsible for building this type of integrated circuits was bought. Currently, the giant from Cupertino successfully produces proprietary processors for mobile devices and computers, but still uses modems provided by Qualcomm or Intel.

The company is preparing to launch a proprietary mobile network modem integrated with the Apple A processor. Unfortunately, the latest reports indicate that this will only happen in 2023, which means that the iPhone 14 will continue to use will be a modem manufactured by a subcontractor.

Nikkei Asian reports on Apple's collaboration with TSMC. Both companies plan to start production of their own 5G modem in 2023.

iPhone 14 may be the last Apple smartphone with a modem manufactured by Qualcomm.

The smartphone will probably receive a 10-gigabit 5G Qualcomm Snapdragon X65 modem, which will allow you to download and upload data with greater bandwidth.

iPhone 14 will receive a fall detection system

iPhone 14 may receive a fall detection function, which we have known for several years from Apple Watch watches. Information about this system was first revealed by The Wall Street Journal.

Apple engineers are to work on a function that, combined with built-in sensors and an accelerometer, will allow automatic detection of falls and accidents. In the event of a serious fall of the user with the iPhone in the pocket or the involvement of a traffic accident, the smartphone is to automatically call the emergency services by calling 911 (in the US) or 112.

iPhone 14 Pro will receive a screen with a built-in camera instead of the classic cutout

Further sources confirm that Apple will abandon the use of the notch after more than four years. More expensive models from the iPhone 14 family will receive a camera placed directly in the display. This is an element that has been available in Android smartphones for several years.

According to the latest report by The Elec, Apple intends to get rid of the notch from the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Fortunately, this does not mean that the Face ID facial recognition system will disappear from devices. The giant from Cupertino has new sensors and sensors that occupy a much smaller area.

The screen of the new models will be manufactured by Samsung. Of course, it will be an OLED matrix with ProMotion.

Unfortunately, the next generation Face ID will not go to the iPhone 14/14 Max. These models will still be sold with a cut-out in the screen, which we know from the iPhone 13.

iPhone 14 Pro with 48 MP in-screen camera; notch stays in cheaper models

Another report on the iPhone 14 has been released to the network. This time the information was provided by the Korean portal The Elec, which often reveals new facts about upcoming Apple devices before their premiere.

The latest note raises the issue of smartphone displays from the iPhone 14 family. This time, however, it is not about the lack of a notch that will not be present in more expensive models. From the entry we learned what camera Apple will use. We are talking about a 48 MP matrix that will be used in the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models.

Apple for the first time in history will reach for a lens with a resolution of more than 12 MP. The new matrix will offer better image quality and a wider angle. We are also waiting for rear lenses with increased resolution that would allow you to record movies in 8K.

iPhone 14 Pro will receive a 6.06-inch screen. It will be an OLED panel with ProMotion (120 Hz refresh rate) produced by LG. Cheaper smartphones will be equipped with a 60 Hz OLED matrix produced by the Chinese company BOE. These screens will be much cheaper to produce. Their quality is to be comparable to the panels used in the iPhone 13 and iPhone 12.

UPDATED December 14, 2021

iPhone 14 Pro will receive a 48 MP camera and 8 GB of operating memory

Apple once again intends to increase the amount of operating memory in its flagship smartphones. Currently, the iPhone 12 Pro / Pro Max and iPhone 13 Pro / Pro Max have 6 GB of RAM, and the other models are equipped with 4 GB of RAM (the exception is the iPhone SE with 3 GB of RAM).

According to analyst Jeff Pu, the new iPhone 14 models in selected configurations will receive up to 8 GB of operating memory.

Pu confirmed the presence of four models - iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Smaller models will receive a 6.1-inch screen, and larger 6.7-inch.

A Haitong International Securities research note, which was made public by MacRumors, shows that the iPhone 14 Pro will receive an improved 48 MP main camera and a new 12 MP ultra-wide-angle camera. Thanks to this change, the iPhone 14 will allow you to record videos in 8K.

Jeff Pu added that the iPhone 14 Pro/Pro Max will receive 8 GB of RAM each. We do not know if the base models will get 6 GB instead of the currently used 4 GB of RAM. According to Pu, the base versions of the re-seller will come with 64GB of built-in storage in the base, which is supposed to be a step backwards. This news seems unlikely.

UPDATE 12/16/2021

iPhone 14 Pro for the first time without protruding cameras

Apple has been selling iPhones with the note Pro since 2019. These models have a better-made housing and more efficient components, but the most important thing is a better camera. Behind the additional matrices and better quality there is a larger island with cameras, which has been a characteristic element of smartphones with the logo of a bitten apple on the housing for two years.

iPhone 14 Pro is to be an innovative flagship. In the era of increasingly large protruding camera islands, Apple intends to completely hide the protruding lenses from the housing.

The new look of the back panel will most likely require a slightly thicker housing body to hide the cameras.

Thus, the iPhone 14 will become even more similar to the older iPhone models - 4 and 4s, which had a flat housing with an aluminum frame.

UPDATE 12/21/2021

iPhone 14 Pro with a 48 MP camera, but without a periscope

The latest reports assume that Apple intends to dose us with photographic novelties in the upcoming iPhone smartphones. Models from the iPhone 14 family will receive a 48 MP main camera for the first time in history. The increased resolution will allow you to record videos in 8K resolution. Thus, Apple will catch up with Android competition, which has been offering this function for several years.

On the other hand, the company is also working on a periscope lens, but it will debut with the iPhone in 2023.

According to well-known Apple analyst - Ming Chi-Kuo - we can expect the 48MP main camera of the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max to use Pixel Binning technology by default. This means that photos will still be taken at a resolution of 12 MP.

Combining pixels will allow you to improve the quality of photos in difficult lighting conditions at the expense of lower resolution. Pixel Binning will also be a novelty in Apple smartphones, although the competition has been using this solution for several years.

Unfortunately, there will be no periscope lens, so we shouldn't count on great opportunities for optical zooming. Probably smartphones will receive a telephoto lens with a 3x zoom.

UPDATE 3.1.2022

Further sources confirm no notch in the screen

Mark Gurman shared his New Year's predictions for Apple hardware. Among other things, he raised the issue of the iPhone 14. According to a Bloomberg journalist, Apple will actually get rid of the screen cutout that has been used since 2017.

Gurman believes Apple will make major changes to the design of the iPhone. The notch will be replaced by a camera placed in the screen. We have known this solution for several years from Android devices.

Some of the sensors necessary for the operation of the Face ID system may land directly in the display or between the screen and the touch layer. Apple will also modify the selfie camera itself, which will be smaller.

Mark Gurman also mentions other innovations we've heard about before. We are talking about a 48 MP main camera with 8K recording, a titanium housing, no ports and space for SIM cards.

UPDATE 07/01/2022

iPhone 14 Pro with a pill-shaped screen cutout

New information has hit the network about the appearance of the display on the iPhone 14 Pro. @dylandkt believes that there will be a pill-shaped camera module in the panel. We already know this solution, among others, from the Galaxy S10 +.

@dylandkt believes that Apple will move some of the elements responsible for the operation of the Face ID system under the display. Components that need to be on top, such as the TrueDepth camera, will be placed in a small module on the screen.

Thereby, @dylandkt confirms earlier information provided by Mark Gurman from Bloomberg and Ross Young. The iPhone 14 Pro will be the first Apple smartphone with Face ID and without a cutout in the screen.

@dylandkt also informed that changes in the appearance and operation of the Face ID module will not adversely affect the speed and accuracy of operation.

UPDATE 01/10/2022

High-quality photos of the new iPhone 14 screen online

A high-quality visualization has leaked online, showing what the front panel of the iPhone 14 Pro looks like. The photo shows a new display without the characteristic cutout in the screen. Instead of a notch, the smartphone has a small pill-shaped cutout, which is placed centrally in the middle - in the place where the notch is located in currently sold smartphones.

Photo shared by Jeff Grossman on Twitter. It shows a prototype iPhone with a new front panel and running the iOS operating system. Thanks to the new cutout, the status bar is noticeably wider. It is possible that Apple will redesign it and allow more information to be displayed. It is possible that Apple will once again allow you to display the battery level in percentage directly in the notification bar.

The new screen without a cutout in the screen is to go only to the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

UPDATE 01/11/2022

iPhone 14 Pro more expensive by PLN 500!

Unfortunately, not very optimistic rumors have hit the web. LeaksApplePro on Twitter published a new price list for smartphones from the iPhone 14 family. It turns out that the Pro and Pro Max models with a new display and without a cutout in the screen will be more expensive!

Currently, iPhone 13 Pro costs at least PLN 5199, iPhone 13 Pro Max PLN 5699. The new models will be $100 more expensive, which in Poland will translate into a price increase of PLN 500. This means that the iPhone 14 Pro will cost a minimum of PLN 5,699.

Fortunately, the increases will not apply to the iPhone 14.

iPhone 14 will cost the same as iPhone 13 - from PLN 4,199.

UPDATE 01/13/2022

We've known for a long time that Apple plans to get rid of the notch from the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models. New leaks about the front panel of these smartphones have just hit the network.

Recently, there has been a lot of talk about a small pill-shaped module, which was supposed to contain the necessary modules and a 3D camera for Face ID.

The well-known consultant in the display industry - Ross Young shared his predictions for the iPhone 14. In his Twitter post, you can see a picture of the front panel that is expected to come to the iPhone 14 Pro.

According to Ross Young, Apple will opt for a pill-shaped module, and there will be a classic hole for the camera next to it.

It will be used to place the 3D camera. The other elements of the Face ID system will be in the second module.

By the way, another source confirmed the presence of a 48 MP main camera in the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. This element was mentioned in the latest report of the research company TrendForce.

The Taiwanese source refers to the rear wide-angle camera, which is 12MP on iPhone 13 family models.

Ming-Chi-Kuo previously reported on the iPhone 14 Pro's 48MP main camera and 8K video recording. In practice, the 48 MP matrix will only be used for recording in 8K. Photos will still be taken in 12 MP using pixel merging technology. This solution will allow you to maintain the high quality of photos despite the smaller size of a single pixel.

UPDATE 01/14/2022

iPhone 14 - will we see alternative biometric security?

Could the iPhone 14 offer a different unlocking solution than Face ID?

Biometric face scanning is currently the most advanced system securing access to mobile devices. The solution developed in 2017 has no competition to this day. Unfortunately, over the course of four years, we also learned about its shortcomings. We are talking about the need to use a notch - a cutout in the screen - and the inability to unlock it when we wear a mask.

Consumers around the world are quietly counting on the return of Touch ID - a fingerprint reader - which this time could be placed in the display. There is also a bit of talk about the complete transfer of the Face ID system under the display.

Famous market analysts Ming-Chi-Kuo, Ross Young and Bloomberg journalist - Mark Gurman commented on the above-mentioned solutions.

According to the three, we can only count on giving up the classic notch and transferring selected elements to the display. We are talking about the presence of a small pill-shaped hole.

According to Ross Young, moving the elements of the Face ID system under the screen so that they are invisible to the user will be possible in 2023 or later at the earliest. This means that this technology will not appear in the models of the iPhone 14 family.

Kuo adds that we shouldn't count on a fingerprint reader on the screen either. An iPhone with such a solution is scheduled for the second half of 2023 at the earliest. We're probably talking about the iPhone 15 again.

More sources confirm 48MP camera on Pro model

Latest TrendForce report confirms 48MP main camera on iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro.

Analysts agree with earlier predictions by Ming Chi-Kuo and Mark Gurman of Bloomberg. iPhone 14 Pro will receive a 48 MP camera for the first time in history. The whole will benefit from combining 4 pixels into 1, so the final photos will have the same resolution as in previous models. The higher resolution is necessary to support 8K video recording, which will be new to the iPhone 14 family of smartphones.

The main camera of the iPhone 14 Pro will also receive optical image stabilization with a sensor shift sensor. We know this solution from the previous model.

The TrendForce report also touches on the appearance of iPhone 14 smartphones. The whole family will receive a slight visual refresh. Analysts emphasize the lack of a notch and protruding cameras. There are also round buttons for volume control, which we already know from the iPhone 4/5.

UPDATE 01/17/2022

iPhone 14 - each model with 6 GB RAM and ProMotion

Optimistic information about the upcoming smartphones from the iPhone 14 family has been leaked into the network. They show that Apple will transfer the flagship features of the iPhone 13 Pro to each model from the iPhone 14 family.

Joe Rossignol in an interview with MacRumors provided some new information about Apple smartphones for 2022. They show that the iPhone 14 Pro can receive 8 GB of RAM. This information has not been confirmed, but Rossignol reports that each iPhone 14 model will have at least 6 GB of RAM. This means that the base models will receive an additional 2 GB of RAM.

In addition, a research note from Haitong International Securities obtained by MacRumors contains information confirming the presence of a ProMotion display in each model of the iPhone 14 family. This means that the base smartphones will also receive an OLED panel with a 120 Hz refresh rate. In the case of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max, we are still talking about a panel with a cutout in the screen.

According to Ming Chi-Kuo, Apple will modify not only the amount of operating memory. He expects Apple to bring back the 64GB models of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max in order to lower the price. This is, in our opinion, an unlikely vision. On the other hand, Kuo reports that in the Pro and Pro Max models, the base version will offer 256 GB of built-in storage.

More visualizations of the iPhone 14 Pro without a notch in the screen

More visualizations of the upcoming iPhone 14 Pro, which will receive a screen without a notch, have been released online. This time we can admire the smartphone on the video published on YouTube by Hacker 34. The video shows the prototype of the iPhone 14 Pro, which is mostly consistent with previous rumors and leaks that have already hit the web.

The author decided to redesign the status bar in his own way so that it again shows the battery percentage. In addition, we managed to fit the date - this element we know from iPad tablets.

We'd like Apple to bring back the classic look of the top bar to the iPhone 14. Unfortunately, despite the smaller notch, the iPhone 13 family models still don't allow you to display the exact battery charge status.

UPDATE 01/24/2022

iPhone 14 release date confirmed

Mark Gurman confirmed the planned release date for the iPhone 14 in the latest issue of the Power On newsletter. There are no surprises here. New smartphones from Apple will debut on the market in September 2022. Apple has been presenting the next generation of iPhone for many years just after the holidays. The exception was the iPhone 12. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the premiere took place a month later.

The Bloomberg journalist expects four models - iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Max and iPhone 14 Pro Max. There will be no iPhone 14 mini. We will also not get the Touch ID fingerprint reader built into the screen. The latest information indicates that ProMotion will still be reserved for the Pro and Pro Max models.

UPDATE 01/25/2022

Sony may produce components for the iPhone 14

The latest rumors suggest that the Japanese giant intends to earn some money by producing components for upcoming iPhone models.

According to the latest report that hit the web, Sony will produce components for building iPhone 14 Pro cameras. Initially, these elements were to be manufactured by the Taiwanese company TSMC, but its technological process does not yet meet Apple's requirements.

Sony will produce the components necessary to build the 48 MP main camera, which is to be the biggest novelty of the iPhone 14 Pro. Due to the key importance of this component, Apple reached for Sony, which has extensive experience in the construction of matrices and lenses.

Camera components for lower priced models will continue to be manufactured by TSMC.

UPDATED January 26, 2022

Apple will completely abandon Touch ID in iPhone smartphones?

From time to time, rumors about the fingerprint reader embedded in the screen of the next generation iPhone return to the network. We have been hearing about this solution for a good two years, and the topic always returns before the premiere of next-generation smartphones.

Unfortunately, Apple probably won't listen to users' requests and will not implement Touch ID in the screen of the flagship iPhone, regardless of generation.

Some sources indicate that the iPhone SE+ 5G will be the last iPhone model presented with a fingerprint reader. Alternatively, this biometric security system could return in 2023 with the all-new iPhone SE model, but we shouldn't expect Touch ID on flagship iPhones with a built-in 3D Face ID scanning system.

High-profile tech journalists and leak sources suggest we should get used to Face ID instead of expecting Touch ID to return. This technology will not be withdrawn from the market, but will be present in other Apple devices - tablets and computers.

iPhone 14 may debut in a version with 2 TB of storage

The ETNews portal, citing American sources, reports the possibility of launching a new capacitive version of the iPhone. Currently, we will buy the iPhone 13 in versions with 128 GB, 256 GB or 512 GB and 1 TB of built-in storage. Even before the launch of the iPhone 13, it was suggested that a model with 2 TB of storage would appear on the market, but this did not happen.

Meanwhile, rumors about the presence of the iPhone 14 Pro in the version with 2 TB of storage have hit the network. This information has not been confirmed in any way and is rather unlikely. The new capacitive versions first go to the iPad Pro, which is intended to be used as a replacement for a portable computer. It is true that we will buy the iPad Pro in versions with 1 TB and 2 TB of storage, but we doubt that Apple will offer identical configurations for the iPhone. Currently, there are not many smartphones on the market with such a capacious mass memory, because the cost of its production is very high. We suspect that Apple may still sell a 1TB storage model, which this time will be dedicated to people recording video in 8K, but the 2TB model will probably not appear on the market.

UPDATED January 27, 2022

iPhone 14 may debut in e-SIM only version

Apple is known for forcing certain things on mobile network operators around the world. Suffice it to recall that the iPhone has no branding, and Apple was the first to introduce new SIM card standards twice - microSIM in 2010 and nanoSIM in 2012.

It is the nanoSIM cards that have been used in every iPhone generation from 5th to 13th since 2012.

The latest information from the web suggests another revolution. Apple has been offering smartphones with e-SIM support since 2018, but apart from the presence of an electronic SIM card, we also have a classic nanoSIM card tray. It turns out, however, that the iPhone 14 in selected configurations may only be available with an e-SIM card. A similar solution is already used in Apple Watch watches.

Apple launching iPhone 14 configurations without a physical slot for a SIM card will quickly force mobile network operators to implement this standard. Currently in Poland, e-SIM is issued by Plus and Orange.

Market analysts predict that the model equipped only with an e-SIM card is to be an addition to the classic configurations equipped with a nanoSIM card slot and a built-in e-SIM card.

Unusual renders of the iPhone 14 Pro on the web

More renders of the iPhone 14 Pro have hit the web. This time, however, they do not resemble previous visualizations that have been massively uploaded to the network over the past few weeks. High-quality renders of the iPhone 14 Pro have been circulating on Twitter, which appear to be a mix of the iPhone X and the latest Google Pixel 6 Pro smartphone.

Visualizations went online in early February 2022. Their author is @aaple_lab, and the whole thing is based on information from leaks. The pictures show the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Both smartphones resemble the Google Pixel 6 Pro. All because of a completely different island with cameras that stretches across the entire width of the back. We also know this solution from the Samsung Galaxy S10.

The creator of the renders himself said that these are loose visualizations that may not be covered in practice. In fact, we don't expect Apple to abandon the square lens housing.

In the camera bar there are three cameras and a large LED flash. Interestingly, the phones do not have a square housing. Instead, the design we know from the iPhone X and Xs models produced in 2017-2019 was used for visualization.

iPhone 14 - what news are Internet users waiting for?

Wondering what news from the iPhone 14 long-term users of Apple smartphones expect? It turns out that most of them are in line with our predictions and rumors and leaks from trusted sources.

First of all, users are waiting for the Lightning port to be abandoned in favor of USB Type-C. The USB Type-C standard has all the advantages of Lightning, such as a reversible port, and is much more versatile and allows for faster data transfer. In addition, USB Type C is used by Apple in other devices, which would increase compatibility between devices.

Thanks to USB Type C, we could charge the iPhone with a power adapter from a MacBook or iPad. In addition, the USB Type C port will allow you to charge the iPhone with chargers of other devices, e.g. Android smartphones. In addition, there is no need to carry a special cable.

Another novelty that iPhone users are waiting for is a higher resolution camera. Apple has been using 12MP cameras since 2015. For the first time, this type of camera went to the iPhone 6s. The change in resolution was caused by recording in 4K. We expect the iPhone 14 Pro to get a 48 MP camera to be able to record video in 8K.

Interestingly, by default, photos are still to be taken in 12 MP. All thanks to Pixel Binning technology, which will allow you to reduce the weight of photos without losing quality.

The last novelty we are waiting for is a newer and more efficient 5G network modem. Apple joined the manufacturers of 5G devices quite late. For the first time, a modem of this type went to the iPhone 12.

We would like the iPhone 14 to receive a 5G 10 Gbps modem. It will allow for faster data transfer in the future. It is possible that this will be a solution designed by Apple itself.

UPDATE 02/11/2022

iPhone 14 is finally to receive faster charging

Apple has been using an almost unchanged fast charging system since 2018. iPhone Xs and newer smartphones can be charged with 18 W. Charging time to 50% takes 30 minutes. The current competition can even charge the entire battery in a similar time.

Apple offered slightly faster charging in the models of the iPhone 13 family, which in the largest model of the iPhone 13 Pro Max temporarily allows charging with a power above 20 W. Unfortunately, the company is still far behind the competition. Even Samsung, which is not famous for its fast charging systems, has implemented on-board chargers with a power of 25 to 45 W in the Galaxy S22 family, depending on the model.

We expect that the iPhone 14 equipped with a USB Type-C port may receive a faster charging system worthy of a 2022 device. Unfortunately, we currently don't know any details about charging the upcoming iPhone generation.
