Air temperature

In winter, when heating allows us to survive the rain, not only does the overall temperature rise, but also the humidity of the air often decreases. Unfortunately, both factors are very unfavorable for plants, because then you can notice the deformation of our potted specimens. So how to improve the conditions? It is best to move the plants where it is cooler, but if this is not possible, the air humidity in heated rooms should be increased.

If we want to improve the condition of potted plants in winter, it is worth considering the purchase of air humidifiers that adjust the level of humidity to make it suitable for our specimens. Of course, other, cheaper solutions can be used: it is a good idea to place the pots on trays filled with pebbles and water.

Watering plants in winter

You don't need to convince anyone that watering plants - in addition to providing them with sunlight - is essential for their survival. Unfortunately, in winter you have to adjust the amount of water they need to the conditions in the rooms. What do you have to bear in mind? Either colder days, when the moisture stays in the pots longer, or higher temperatures, which means that plants need more water. If we want to improve the condition of potted plants, it is worth monitoring the hydration of the substrate every day. If it is dry, it is a sign that it needs watering.

Too frequent irrigation can promote the formation of mold and fungal diseases in the pot, as well as their transfer to all plants.

Fertilization of plants

The subject of plant fertilization is often taken up as a topic. Discussions most often concern whether plants need additional preparations in autumn and winter. On the one hand, there are opinions that they should not be applied outside the growing season. And what is the truth?

To improve the condition of potted plants, it is worth treating them with a small dose of fertilizers from time to time. Preferably those that offer potassium or phosphorus in their composition, which strengthen their condition. It is not recommended to feed with preparations rich in nitrogen, because it will stimulate them to excessive growth. It is also a good idea to water the plants with water with the addition of vegetable stock or banana decoction.

Look after your plants every day!

If you want to improve the condition of your potted plants, you need to monitor their condition every day. Especially when they are wasting away, because then you have to react quickly. And what to do with plants to survive the winter unscathed? It is worth cleaning their leaves from dust, because its presence adversely affects the process of photosynthesis. Larger leaves can be wiped with a damp cloth, but the smaller ones are better washed with lukewarm water in the shower. Specimens that have leaves covered with hairs, the so-called cutter, you need to clean with a brush.
