After our last articles about watching hotel guests and a hidden camera in the apartment in Poland, we were sent to us a lot of questions about how to detect the fact that in the room where we are found someone installed such hidden cameras.Is a smartphone with a "specialized" application that a few can be found in the AppStors?Or maybe you need specialized equipment?Only is it enough for PLN 200 or maybe it is better to invest in this for PLN 6,000?We decided to look at the topic and ask for a practice - a former officer of the Intelligence Agency and the current detective who has practical experience in the subject of observation techniques, on both sides of the camera.

What we wrote above is public and cheap, very amateur equipment.As you probably guessed, the upper ceiling there is actually no price.A simple camera in a charger similar to the one found by our reader costs PLN 500.However, you can buy a device four times more expensive, thus gaining a wider viewing angle, less light demand or more recording modes and remote control.We guess that these "professional" voyeurs who know that they will watch important people are eager to invest in better equipment, because probably the money received for "buying" the money will cover it with more than.
"Do not look for eye and ear"
However, there is good news.Most of the cameras and the cheap and expensive ones can be detected.However, before we describe the techniques of detecting lenses, let's quote an important comment, which is the author of Michał Rybak, a private detective, founder of the Rybak Security Office and former officer of the Intelligence Agency.
So how do you do it effectively?Michał will tell us about it in a moment, but first we will present you the possibilities you have.I wonder if while reading their descriptions you will select the most effective ones yourself and whether your type will coincide with the opinion of our expert.
Application + smartphone

Will the application be effective?Certainly it will not work if your phone does not have a magnetometr.If you have a magnetometr on your phone, there is some (rather very low) probability of detecting some types of cameras and this is provided that you approach them properly.And a high risk of false Positives.
All applications failed our test
We conducted a very simple test on the already mentioned cheapest camera hidden in a pen.Magnetometr applications did not detect them.we are sorry.They just didn't detect and that's it.
In addition, some of the application allows you to detect those cameras that emit infrared.In this mode, the application launches the viewfinder through which we should see the room.If we see a white light somewhere, which we do not see with the naked eye at the same time, it means that we found an infrared source.However, this technique may prove to be fatal.Some smartphones have infrared filters in lenses - to check if your smartphone sees "infrared", point the camera on the TV remote control and press some button on it.If you don't see the glow, you can forget about the search for cameras by infrared.
It is also worth adding that there are applications based on detecting reflections of light from a flash (e.g..GLINT FINDER).Theoretically, you can find not only hidden cameras, but also lost shiny objects.This method has one serious disadvantage - a lot depends on how the user interpret the image given by the applications.The easiest way is to find a camera that we know that there is somewhere.

However, you need to be aware that these devices do not detect hidden cameras, but they are given a signal.And the camera does not have to give the signal wirelessly.In addition, on the tests presented above, the cameras are absolutely open and not hidden.It is easy to see the camera lens in the IR lens, if we know where to look for this lens.By making a "scan" in an unknown environment, we can miss minor reflections, or misinterpret some natural reflections.
Radio scanning can also return a lot of false Positives.There are many devices in our surroundings that can arouse a false alarm.We can limit this by manipulating the sensitivity of the device, but this will of course affect the quality of detection.

What to do? How to live?
If you are not a specialist in detecting eavesdropping, you probably have neither equipment nor knowledge to detect any wiretap in the environment.Which does not mean that you will not be able to detect it.But also does not mean that you will miss all hidden cameras.
Of course, we do not want to spoil anyone, and if you feel like playing with the wiretap detector for PLN 200, you just play though cheaper (not necessarily handy) can simply be the SDR module connected to the laptop.Ba!It is definitely worth it to travel with such a cheap detector gifts given at conventions of fast driving lovers?And what if something will detect and will be fun?
As Michał mentioned, not only the equipment is important.This is confirmed by the story we described with a camera hidden in a rented room - it was identified "by eye" by a curious man who is not a specialist.So it's worth looking and thinking.
